Will Ryoga EVER Escape His Misery? RANMA FOREVER, VOLUME 2: FROM THE DEPTHS OF DESPAIR ON VHS and DVD in AUGUST 2002

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – May 15, 2002 – Viz Communications, Inc. today announced the August video release of Ranma Forever, Volume 2: From the Depths of Despair, on VHS and DVD. Part of the Viz Video line, From the Depths of Despair is the second volume in the final season of the popular, long-running series. The VHS, featuring English-dubbed or option subtitles, retails for $19.98 U.S. ($33.00 Canada), while the DVD, including an English or Japanese audio option, retails for $24.98 U.S. ($40.95 Canada).

In “Pick-a-Peck o’ Happosai,” the first of three featured episodes, a pack of magical, powerful cards has fallen into the wrong hands, and now Happosai is even more of a pain than before! It was bad enough when there was just the one of him-now there are six! Then, in “From the Depths of Despair, Part I,” Ryoga’s new move has got Ranma on the run. The construction-specific “Breaking Point” technique was bad enough, and that only worked on rocks! Can Ranma get away fast enough? And finally, in “From the Depths of Despair, Part II,” to perfect the dangerous “Shishi Hôkô-Dan” technique, Ryoga must travel to the depths of despair.where he lives most of the time anyway. But why is Ranma trying to make Ryoga even more miserable?

Creator Rumiko Takahashi is the world’s most popular female comic artist. Beginning her comics career under the tutelage of Kazuo Koike (Lone Wolf and Cub, Crying Freeman), her boy-meets-alien comedy series, Lum*Urusei Yatsura, began in Shônen Sunday and successfully ran for over nine years, selling over 22 million copies. With the success of Ranma 1/2, Takahashi’s compiled works have sold over 100,000,000 copies (including Maison Ikkoku and Inu-Yasha). Her works have also provided the basis for three long-running animated TV series and over eight animated movies, almost all of which are available in the U.S through Viz Video.

About Ranma 1/2 Martial-arts training hall or “dojo” owner Soun Tendo thought engaging one of his three daughters (the fiery-tempered Akane) to Ranma, son of longtime friend and training partner Genma Saotome. That, though, was before “he” turned out to be a “she”! Due to an unfortunate accident at the cursèd Chinese training ground known as Jusenkyo — when martial artists Ranma and his father, Genma, got splashed with cold water — dad now transforms into a giant panda, while male Ranma becomes a buxom young girl! Hot water reverses the effect, but only until the next time. When Ranma is constantly challenged by battle-crazed martial artists for offenses both real and imagined, and pursued by lovesick suitors of both genders, what’s a half-boy, half-girl to do?
