Sony Pictures Entertainment officials said that each episode of the series cost some 30 million yen to make, three times the normal cost of an animated film.
The creators hope the new version of Astro Boy will also be shown in European and Asian countries.

Another new casino dining offering is Ann Mae, the Japanese restaurant at Beau Rivage that will open at the end of the month. The restaurant, which replaces Ta.ke Ma.ku, is a verbal take-off on "anime," a hot style of Japanese animation.

About Knights of the Zodiac
Knights of the Zodiac is a fast-paced, futuristic action-adventure series which pits the forces of good against evil as the Knights of Athena battle the Knights of Aries for control of the sacred Golden Armor of Sagittarius and the world.
“We recently hosted three of our largest Premier Events,” Jonathan Quesenberry, Score Entertainment’s Director of Marketing said. “All three of these events broke the previous attendance record of 121, which was set earlier this year. In just one weekend, the Dragon Ball Z® CCG had 440 players attending the events. All together, there have been more than 1125 top level competitors that have participated in this program over the past 5 months. That is definitely a rarity in our marketplace for an event of this caliber.”
After last year’s successful tournament circuit, the average number of players per event was a respectable 64 per upper level event. This year that average has nearly doubled as it now sits at 113. By way of comparison, there was only one of these events to break 100 players last year, yet this year there have been seven events to do so and the season still has two events left to go.
Without a doubt, the pinnacle of the WCC in both excitement and attendance is The World Championship Tournament, held at Gen Con each year. In 2001, the Worlds event had 126 players. The 2002 event saw a turnout of 302. Considering the growth rate of the program as whole, it is possible that this year’s Worlds could go well above 450 players!
“We are thrilled at the success of this program.” Quesenberry said. “Not only does it continue to support our products year in and year out, but it has also created something that the community has been excited to embrace. I think their support is self evident.” For the latest details about DBZ CCG events, visit www.DragonBallZCCG.com.
"This was our third festival," said producer and director Angela Alexander, "and each time it just gets better and better."
The documentary's premiere at the St. Louis International Film Festival last November set a high bar for the company to surpass.
"In St. Louis, we screened right after a free sneak preview of two episodes of the Spielberg-produced miniseries Taken. Once the box office receipts were in, we found out not only did a large part of the audience stay and buy tickets to see Invasion: Anime, but we also increased Spielberg's audience by about 65%," said Alexander.
"But this was our home-town crowd. It meant a lot to all of us do well here and we succeeded on many levels."
Alexander and her crew aren't resting on those laurels for long. The documentary will travel overseas for the first time for a screening in July at Animotion, the film festival hosted by AniMagic 2003, one of Europe's largest anime conventions held annually in Nistertal, Germany.
AUDIENCES LOVE THE INVASION
Invasion: Anime is a broad look at the history of Japanese animation (or "anime") and its effect on American culture and entertainment over the last half-century. Interview subjects include names well known to anime fans across the world. Steve Bennett, animator and co-founder of I.C. Entertainment, artists and animators Akemi Takada, Senno Knife, Makoto Uno and Nobuyuki Takahashi, North American voice actors and directors Amy Howard Wilson, Tiffany Grant, Scott McNeil and Taliasen Jaffe and international anime experts like author Helen McCarthy and Dr. Susan J. Napier, Associate Director of Asian Studies, University of Texas, are but a few of more than 20 individuals who donated their time to this project.
After the St. Louis premiere, independent film expert Chris Gore wrote, "Invasion: Anime is a great doc about Japanese animation...an independent film that deserves attention."
FilmThreat.com reviewer Eric Campos writes "Invasion: Anime ...gives a nice history run down of the Japanese animated film...(and serves) as a nice eye opener, offering up information that fans may not have known about from industry professionals and folks that actually study anime."
And audience members from across the country have called Invasion: Anime "fun," "exciting" and "terrific history."
THE REST IS HISTORY
"The whole documentary has been a series of happy accidents," said Alexander. "My editor, Mike Hathaway, came up with an idea to take an inside look at the drama and tension behind running science fiction/fantasy type conventions."
But a case of missing tape stalled that concept and gave birth to Invasion: Anime.
"We began shooting the original idea at Project: A-Kon, a Dallas anime convention," explained Hathaway. "The hotel's front desk misplaced a case of video tape we had set up for delivery during the weekend, limiting what we could shoot, so we chose to use the possibly once-in-a-lifetime-opportunity to get interviews with the Japanese artists who were guests of the convention."
"The rest, as they say, is history."
Invasion: ANIME encompasses several important firsts for Tempest Productions, as it is their first feature-length production and first attempt at a modern- day subject. The company is best known for their short-form examinations of Dallas-Fort Worth history, recently completing of a series of documentary shorts for the Centennial Celebration in Irving, Texas. Forthcoming projects include a historical look at a popular Southern ghost story in An Authentic American Haunting: The Bell Witch of Tennessee and a unique, never-before- told story of courage under fire in World War II. Previous productions include Etched in Stone: A Monumental History (submitted for consideration in the CableACE awards) and Utopia Lost: The La Reunion Commune.
Kristine Sa Background:
Kristine Sa With a beautiful and sultry voice, Kristine Sa sings words penned herself. A talented vocalist and writer, Kristine shares her joy and pain with the ease of a child. Not content to simply write and perform her own songs, Kristine also plays the piano and often writes the music to her songs as well. As a result, Kristine's songs are a true and deep reflection of herself. The expression of a single artist from beginning to end.
Dreams. A vision of reality that we wish to be true. These dreams allow Kristine Sa to share her gifts for words and song with others. Her vision of love, and the pain of reality are the two things that she intimately shares with listeners on her debut album "I Never Knew" - A collection of songs chronicling the end of a bad romantic relationship and the beginning of a new one. Incorporating poetry into her music [Track 5 "Beautiful", Track 6 "Nexusbeta/Parallel Fates"], Kristine adds a touch of invention to her upbeat pop songs and aching ballads. "I Never Knew" is the sound of both a breaking heart and of breaking convention.
