Anime News Service-Review: Cowboy Bebop 6th (Final) Session

Cowboy Bebop 6th SessionThe upcoming release of Cowboy Bebop Session 6 very soon marks the conclusive end of the series, with director Shinichiro Watanabe guiding the story, many of the main characters find their respective destinies, or does it find them? A subtitle used refers to it as a work becoming a genre of it's own and now in hindsight of the TV work, it cannot be understated that Bebop is in our opinion, one of the best anime to be produced in the 90's, and beyond that, ever. The absolute best talents in the industry in key areas were brought together on this project and created anime magic.

The final volume carries a (fitting) color scheme of blue, the cover illustration by Toshihiro Kawamoto features Spike, Faye, Ed, and Jet, the back cover includes a profile of Julia. Inside are liner notes and the disc containing episodes 23-26, trailers of Saber Marionette J TV, Outlaw Star, Gundam Wing, and Tenamonya Voyagers. If you've followed this series on DVD look for a menu surprise at the start. Extras appear in the form of an image cover gallery.

Episode 23: A mysterious cult called Scratch is lureing in members, offering the prospect of perpetual enlightenment via scanning ones brain patterns onto the net. Faye is caught up in this, fleeing her debt, and Spike is sent to the last scene of her communication. Menawhile Ed and Jet trace down the origins of the Cult leader.

Episode 24: Faye and Ed grapple with their past lives on a visit to Earth. Ed meets up with her father, who is tracing meteor impacts. Faye uncovers her forgotten memories and goes back to where she grew up. Are both women saying goodbye to the bebop to persue a new course in life?

Episode 25: Vicious, Spike's old friend and current rival's attempt at coup within his syndicate fails and now all it's members past and present have a price on their head. Faye encounters Spike's old girl Julia while she is being persued by syndicate thugs and gives her a message for Spike. Is she ready to run away from this life of crime and sorrow with Spike?

Episode 26: The final episode sees Spike's old friends coming under the target of the syndicate's cleanout. The bounty hunter is left with a choice of putting his past behind him or fighting on more than once in this episode as all rivalries are settled once and for all.

The end of Cowboy Bebop may surprise you, and even leave some tears in your eyes. The final episode especially represents the use of some of the highest quality animation in the series, a few of Yoko Kanno's best Bebop music tracks are featured over these final episodes as well.

The disc is available soon, it has a running time of 100 minutes and retails at $29.98.

You can buy the disc directly from Bandai Entertainment at Anime Village.
