USAGI YOJIMBO: DEMON MASK TPB

By Stan Sakai; cover by Sakai.

The close of 16th century Japan was a violent age, as rival feudal lords fought for land and power. Miyamoto Usagi braved many a battle only to lose his lord and find himself a masterless samurai, or ronin. While many ronin became bandits or mercenaries, Usagi chose the warrior pilgrimage: wandering the land, fighting injustice, seeking enlightenment. Eisner Award winner Stan Sakai has crafted a truly original and delightful work, an all-ages adventure epic that creates a world of excitement, mystery, and imagination, while building each story on painstaking research of Japan's history, culture, and mythology. Demon Mask is a collection of diverse Usagi stories, featuring a graveyard encounter with creatures from Japanese folktales, a whodunit clash with a mysterious masked assassin, a young adventure-lover insistent on receiving Usagi's sword training, a peasant village terrorized by a ravaging Spider Woman, and more.

224 pages, black and white, $16.95, arrives in stores on March 14.

He and his comrade, Gen, have wandered into a town dominated by two rival gangs, and in a scheme to break the gangs' power, they each join a rival faction. When up against a formidable enemy, it can sometimes be wise to infiltrate your foe and learn of his intentions, but Usagi's plans go astray, and it's trouble for the fuzzy samurai friends. Usagi Yojimbo #46 is the first of a two-part story featuring connecting, wraparound covers that combine to form one large poster-size image.

Those who stand guard will stop at nothing to keep Akira from awakening, but Tetsuo, an angry young man with immense -- and rapidly growing -- psychic abilities becomes obsessed with confronting Akira face-to-face. In time, Akira will surely awaken, and Tetsuo may be the only being potentially capable of controlling him, but Tetsuo is becoming increasingly unstable and violent, and a group including his former friend Kaneda sets out to destroy Tetsuo before he can release Akira -- or before Tetsuo himself becomes so powerful that no force on Earth can stop him.

12-4-00---- Viz Updates

Excerpted from the various press releases by Viz Communications:

Don't forget to join us for the Pokémon chat will Viz's own Bill Flanagan, editor and translator of the Pokémon comic books, at: http://est.yack.com/yack/es/dt/category_id/5015/form_id/live_events/ev ent_id/300137426.html

And just who is Bill Flanagan? We're glad you asked, because we just happen to have his bio lying around:

Bill Flanagan was minding his own business, trying to get his Kamekusu (Blastoise) to higher and higher levels, when he was told that he'd be translating and editing the Pokémon comic. Not knowing what he was in for (this was before any Pokémon stuff had come out in English), he readily agreed and was saddled with one of the most closely watched projects that Viz has ever produced. Fortunately, Bill has had a decade of experience translating comics and anime, along with playing video games and other fun wastes of time, so he doesn't regret a single headache that Pokémon may have caused. Bill also translates the Gundam and Gundam Wing comics and edits Animerica Extra for Viz.

That's Bill's Pokémon Chat, Tuesday, December 5, at 6 PM Pacific Time!

'WONDER WHAT HAPPENED AFTER GUNDAM WING? GUNDAM WING: BLIND TARGET #1
FIRST ISSUE!

San Francisco, CA (12/1/00) -Viz Comics proudly announces the February 2001 release of Gundam Wing: Blind Target #1! By far the most popular show on Cartoon Network's Toonami block, Gundam Wing's popularity continues to grow. With new episodes set to debut soon, Viz is pleased to tell the story of what happened after Endless Waltz, the first story arc.

This new Gundam Wing series combines the beautiful art of shôjo and the action of shônen manga. After the end of the Gundam Wing TV storyline, the G-Boys discover that world peace does not come without a price. Trowa meets an old comrade from his days in the resistance who offers to buy his Gundam, which he hasn't used since the war. But who are the killers who are after the lives of Relena and the Gundam pilots?

While the overall Gundam Wing storyline is the brainchild of Hajime Yadate and Yoshiyuki Tomino, Blind Target #1 features the writing of shôjo sensation Sakura Asagi and the crisp, clear art of Akemi Omoid.

Gundam Wing: Blind Target #1 is a four-issue monthly series in black and white. Each issue is 40 pages long and retails at $2.95 USA/$4.50 CAN.

EAGLE SOARS TO NEW HEIGHTS

EAGLE #13: THE ELECTION ISN'T OVER UNTIL WE SAY IT'S OVER!

"A canny political thriller!" -US News and World Report

San Francisco, CA (12/1/00) -Viz Comics is pleased to announce the beginning of the second year for Eagle: The Making of an Asian- American President. Currently set to run for 22 issues, Eagle is the story of Kenneth Yamaoka and his bid to become the first Asian- American to hold the office of president. In this issue, Maria Estefano, a Puerto Rican daughter of immigrants, has an incredible claim: candidate Yamaoka fathered an illegitimate child with her, twenty years ago. And for Takashi, that child's identity is even more crushing than the imminent collapse of Yamaoka's campaign!

Eagle has received rave reviews from both the comics community and the mainstream press. Eagle was recently hailed by U.S. News and World Report as a "canny political thriller" when that magazine selected it as a Top Pick in October. In an LA Times article that same month, Jim Borgman, Pulitzer Prize-winning political cartoonist for the Cincinnati Enquirer and co-creator of the comic strip Zits, said, "The drawing is really jaw-droppingly handsome. It carries me through page after page. I'm struck by the diversity of rendering, the textures, the atmospherics--all masterful."

An excellent book for both comics fans and non-comics readers, Eagle is written and drawn by popular Japanese manga artist Kaiji Kawaguchi. Each monthly issue is black and white, 104 pages long and retails for $6.95 USA/$10.95 Canada.

Dear Robotech.com Member, We know that you are excited about the upcoming launch of Robotech.com, the official Robotech website. As one of the first members to register, we would like to invite you to participate in our Macross Survey. All members who participate in the survey will be granted exclusive access to our beta website -- launching only weeks from now!

The survey asks several interesting questions that may or may not hint at the direction a new series may take:

Do you prefer anime to be subtitled or dubbed? How about DVD's and VHS tapes?

Have you seen the Macross anime series in Japanese?

Have you seen the Macross movie?

Have you seen Macross Plus?

Have you seen Macross II?

Have you seen Macross 7?

Which one had the best music?
