Now for something a bit different.... a review of an item that to our knowledge is not available at retail and something most fans will not be able to get their hands on: Bandai Entertainment's official Mobile Suit Gundam F-91 Movie Poster.Premiering at Otakon this year, Mobile Suit Gundam F91 was originally released theatrically in Japan in 1991 where it helped to re-launch the Gundam franchise as a separate feature without ties to the original Gundam series characters or story continuity. The theatrical feature will be presented in its original Japanese language with English subtitles. Directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino, key creative members from previous Gundam projects have also lent a hand in the theatrical creative production including Kunio Okawara for mecha designs and Yoshikazu Yasuhiko for character designs.
Bandai relied on Gardena, California's Koyo Graphic International for the design and printing of this full size (27" x 40") "one sheet", as it's known in the industry. Printed on paper stock, the poster was shipped rolled in cardboard tube to preserve natural design which develops creases with folding.
KGI and Bandai's result has to be one of the most impressive promotional posters we've seen from a domestic distributor. Hiroshi Arisawa's original illustration F-91 Gundam dominates the majority of the frame. As has been done with earlier Gundam logo's, the classic 2D font from 1991 has been graphically enhanced and rendered 3 dimensionally to dramatic effect inside the 30 inch Gundam's saber beam. The size, quality of paper and ink truly makes this one a sure eyecatcher in the lobby's at screening venues around the country.
