2-4-00---- Anime / Manga Gaming

SNK's upcoming PSX version of The King Of Fighters '99: Millennium Battle will reportedly be based on the Neo Geo CD Version, hidden characters: Kyo and Iori are playable from the start and the last boss Krizalid will be playable after some advancement. There is a new Art Gallery Mode, Voice Gallery Mode and Color Edit Mode, where players can customize the costume color of each character, save, and reuse in other play modes. There will be no extra Striker characters as in the Dreamcast port. Release in Japan is set for March 23rd, the title will list at 5800 Yen.

Capcom / Arika's PSX 2 launch title, Street Fighter EX3, will feature several new characters including a totally new character, Ace. New play modes include Arena Mode, Tag Battle, Dramatic battle (1 v.s. 3 or 2 v.s. 1 etc.), Team Battle (up to 5 v.s. 5), and a new Character Edit Mode, where players can create their own character by earning experience points, which is used to purchase new moves. Japanese release is scheduled for March 4th for a listing price of 6800 Yen.

Square EA will reportedly release Front Mission 3 for PSX in the U.S. on March 22nd.

Microcabin has announced they are producing Marionette Company 2 for both PSX and Dreamcast, the game will be the sequel of their promotion adventure Marionette Company.

Jaleco's Stepping Stage 3 Superior arcade machine is set to appear in Japanese arcades in March. Jaleco has partnered with Avex and BMG to bring together pop songs from U.S., there will be a number of movie and anime themes also including Galaxy Express 999 themes.

U.S. Anime licensing giant, ADV Films announced on Thursday, a distribution deal for the entire catalog of films for The Right Stuf International Inc. The Right Stuf Inc. is an impressive player in the U.S. Anime industry in it's own right, holding licenses to Osamu Tezukas's Kimba The White Lion, and Studio Gainax's Kareshi No Kanajo No Jijou.

2-3-00---- Studio Pierrot To Produce Ayashi No Ceres & Saiyuuki TV Series'

Ayashi No Ceres Animation production house, Studio Pierrot, will reportedly be adapting Fushigi Yuugi creator, Yuu Watase's latest, popular manga, Ayashi No Ceres (running in Shogakukan's Flower Comics), into a new TV series to begin airing in Japan in April. The series will be co-produced by Bandai Visual and air unscrambled on BS Ch. 5 WoWoW. Seiyuu Iwao Junkyo will play the role of Ceres/Aya
Begining it's run in 1996 the Ayashi No Ceres manga tells the story of Mikage Aya and her twin brother, Aki. On their 16th birthday the two are brought to their grandfather's house where all their relatives were gathered and shown a box with a mummified hand inside. At the sight of the hand a mysterious power in Aya is released and her grandfather orders her to be killed. She escapes an attempt on her life, but her brother Aki is imprisoned. Aya discovers that she possesses the blood of the "Tennyo" (Heavenly Maiden), when severely taken over with emotion her power will manifest itself, transforming her into Ceres. If left to live, she is believed to be destined to bring ruin to the Mikage family. Aya struggles to fight with her destiny and rid herself of Ceres so she can once again return to the life of a normal teenage girl. She must avoid other attempts on her life by her grandfather and other Mikage family members, and win her brother's freedom. Assisting Aya is Suzumi Aogiri, a woman who also possesses tennyo blood and Suzumi's brother-in-law Yuuhi, a boy Aya's age assigned to protect her. Working in the background is Aya's cousin Kagami who tells the Mikage family's henchman Tooya not to kill the girl, but to keep an eye on her while investigating her powers.

Studio Pierrot is also reportedly producing an Anime TV series version of Kazuya Minekura's Saiyuuki manga (already a 3 Vol. OVA). Saiyuuki tells the Chinese legend of the Monkey King. Humans and demons share a state of peaceful co-existance In the land of Togenkyo, after the attempt of the use of chemistry and magic to resurect Gyumao, a powerful demon who was sealed and buried by Nataku Taishi (one of the five gods who rule heaven), Genjyo Sanzo is called to Shayou Choan Palace. Sanzo, a sanzoboshi (highest ranking monk), is assigned to travel west, investigate the situation, and stop to the resurection. Traveling with him are Son Goku, Sha Gojyo, and Cho Hakkai, whom Sanzo is assigned to work with by Kannong Bosatsu (the goddes of mercy and one of the five gods of heaven). The team must cope with their uneasy alliance, shady pasts, and an uncertain future in their quest.

The Ayashi No Ceres Manga has just has finished at issue #4, an Ayashi No Ceres Artwork Book will be released in Japan on Marth 25th. It will feature 32 original works.

The Ayashi No Ceres Novel Vol. 1 will be released in Japan on April 25th. Cover and illustration throughout will be provided by Yuu Watase.

Yuu Watase's latest manga, "Imadoki! (As go now!)", is a high school love comedy. It will start its run in Shojyo Comics March 5th.

Fushigi Yuugi Gaiden will be end of the Manga FY storyline with the publishing of the next issue, Vol. 8, Vol. 7 was recently released on the 1st of Feb. 1.

2-3-00---- Kia Asamiya Announces American Convention Appearances

Popular manga artist Kia Asamiya, creator of the Silent Mobius, Steam Detectives, Dark Angel, Nadesico series, and artist of the Star Wars: Episode One manga, has announced he will be attending three major U.S. anime and comic conventions this year.

First on Mr. Asamiya's schedule will be Animazement in Raleigh, North Carolina, from March 10th - 12th, where he will be appearing as the guest of honor. It will be his first appearance at Animazement. In order to commemorate his first visit to an East Coast convention and to make the event extra special for all the fans who attend, Mr. Asamiya will be illustrating a limited edition print that will be available only at the con. It will be limited to 1000 editions and be sold for only $5.00 to all Animazement attendees. Asamiya-sensei is being very secretive about what the print will be of at this point but assures fans they will not be disappointed by what he comes up with. Next up for Mr. Asamiya will be Comic Con International at San Diego from July 20-23rd. It will be his third appearance at the San Diego convention. While in San Diego, he will be promoting several of his new projects and comics, including his much-rumored, new, full color Dark Angel: Phoenix Resurrection manga series from Image Comics, as well as his new U.S. comic label, Tronix. The last stop on his "American tour" will take him to the Windy City of Chicago for Wizard World Chicago from August 4-6th at the Rosemont Convention Center. After 16 printings, Viz Comic's release of Pokemon: The Electric Tale of Pikachu #1, has surpassed one million copies printed, placing it in such exlusive American comics company as Superman #75, Spawn #1 and others. Total sales for all reprints and distribution for Pokemon: The Electric Tale of Pikachu #1 are now at 1,001,000 copies, outselling any other single comic released since 1993. Combined with Viz Comic's other Pokemon issues currently in print, over 7.25 million Pokemon comics have been printed since Nov. 1998. According to Viz, The Electric Tale of Pikachu #2-4 sold an average of 950,000 copies each. Pokemon: Pikachu Shocks Back #1-4 has sold an average of 680,000 copies each.

Working Designs has announced that American Arc the Lad Collection for PSX will have new analog and dual shock support not found in the Japanese versions.

Capcom will release Typing Fighter II for PC in Japan, featuring Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, Dhalsim, M. Bison, Sagat, Vega, Balrog, Honda, Blanka, Zangief and Guile. In the game, the player must type words to attack opponents. typing Fighter II is slated for release in spring, for Windows and Mac, listing at 4900 Yen.

The release of Megumi Hayashibara's vocal best-collection album has been pushed back for release later in April 26th.

The 1st Sakura Taisen Gouka Kenran OVA series CD single (featuring Takano Urara, Nishihara Kumiko, and Ikura Kazue) is slated for release on March 15 listing at 1,050 Yen.

Chisa Yokoyama's best-collection album is set for release March 24th listing at 2,500 Yen. 1st presses include a CD-size Chisa Yokoyama Calendar.

A new song by progressive techno group Boom Boom Satellites will appear as the main theme in Namco's PSX 2 launch title, Ridge Racer 5.

The Japanese record label Avex is rumored to be looking at possibly establishing an American branch that will introduce J-Pop to the continent.

Junon entertainment magazine has named Hamazaki Ayumi as Japan's Queen of the Millennium. The Millennium Queen poll is filled out by teens, and rates candidates on the artist's ability represent the new millennium, have the millennium look, and have talent to last 1,000 years.

2-2-00---- Omron To Debut Robot Cat

Japan-based Omron Corp. announced on Monday, that they will market a robot cat named Tama (meaning "round" or "ball" in Japanese) able simulate emotions this November. The company was encouraged to advance development based on the success of Sony Corporation's robot dog, AIBO. Tama incorporates spatial sound field recognition programming, when spoken to, the cat will turn its head in the direction from which the voice originates. When Tama is petted gently, it falls asleep, when it is disturbed it makes an angry-cat noise. Depending on how it is raised, the cat will develop a unique character. The company is plans to set up a Tama "hospital" to take care of robots that malfunction or become damaged, and a "beauty salon" where they can be taken. No official price has been set, however Omron says Tama will fall under AIBO's 250,000 Yen price.

2-2-00---- Pokemon / Princess Mononoke American Boxoffice Update

Pokemon: The First Movie, in it's 12th week of release in North America drew $163,007 over this past weekend, lowering it it from #33 to the #40 on the Daily Variety movie chart. To-date, Pokemon has grossed $85,340,365. In it's 10th week of expanded release, The Princess Mononoke remains somewhere below the #60 position and off the Variety chart. To-date Miramax's limited Mononoke release has estimatedly grossed somewhere over $2,332,000.

2-1-00---- Region 1 Anime On DVD Confirmations

Anime On DVD is reporting a confirmation on an upcoming American DVD release of Pioneer's six part OVA series, Nanako, expected out later this year. Production will be handled by, New Generation Pictures.

New Generation Pictures also reports they will handle production on Pioneer's 3X3 Eyes OAV series release.

Activity on the Kimagure Orange Road mailing list indicates the series will eventually see an American DVD release, possibly as early as later this year or early next year.

Datam Polystar has announced they are working on 3 new Dreamcast titles in Japan. First is Roommate Novel, an interactive novel adventure. Next is Poke Kano, a VMS promotion simulation title, upon completion of the game, players can view ending sequences on the Dreamcast. Finally is a title named Happy Lesson, whic will be an anime adventure, scheduled for release this summer.

Banpresto plans to release their PSX Robot Battle-Sim, Super Robot Taisen Alpha on March 23rd, listing for 6980 Yen.

In Japan Sega Enterprises has announced a partnership with 30 companies to provide nationwide Cable Modem services starting this April. Sega will release an Adapter Kit for Dreamcast this spring, which will include a LAN Adapter (compatible with future ADSL and fiber optic transfer standards), browser, and Dreamcast Camera for video conferencing over the internet.

Capcom has announced Private Justice Academy 2 (Rival Schools 2) for arcade. The game will run on the Naomi board, and support internet battle.
