Anime News Service - Wildcard Event Coming Up For Fans In NY: I-Con 21

The I-Con 21 event is set to occur April 19, 20 and 21 in Stoney Brook New York and while not entirely Anime dedicated, anime will compose a hearty portion of related events, sharing the roster with scifi / fantasy. The SUNY Stony Brook Anime Club is involved in the organization / promotion as the con is held at the club's college. Attended by over 6,000 people each year, I-CON is a three day festival, designed to encourage literacy, creativity and interest in science and technology through science fiction and its related genres. Programming at I-CON spans a wide range of topics and interests, including science fiction, fantasy, horror, comic books, Japanese animation (otherwise known as Anime), medieval reenactment, science and technology. Many area anime companies have attended in past year's and have reserved a few larger profile announcements for I-Con. A three-day pass can be bought for $33 (post registration) and the following events of note can be expected:

1)Huge dealers room with lots of rare anime and sci-fi stuff for sale
2)Over 1500 hours of anime programming
3)Cosplay contest
4)Dubbing Workshop (people are selected from the audience and they watch a scene from an anime and then the scene is played again and the people dub it themselves and then the final product is played again for all, last year it was Slayers and people did some hilarious stuff, like Lina saying she's horny for Gourry and stuff, I believe when they did Utena someone snuch in an All Your Base quaote as well)
5)PC and console gaming tournaments (I will be taking home the gold in the Smash Bros Meele tournament)
6)Workshops on tons of stuff, last year there was stuff about DVD ripping
7)Hentai at night
