According to TOKYOPOP's Kristien Brada-Thompson, “TOKYOPOP has decided to create a single, collector's edition package for SAINT TAIL's remaining three volumes, rather than publishing them individually. We strongly believe that this three-pack series finale will be a fan-favorite -- very reasonably priced and a substantial value to collectors.”
Several series have been dropped midstream by other companies due to lack of sales, however this will not be the case with Saint Tail as TOKYOPOP is committed to finishing out the whole run. No release date has been announced for the collector's edition, though we suspect an announcement at this year's Anime Expo.

Video distributor Panorama Entertainment Ltd. has inked a deal with Japan's Shochiku Co. Ltd. to distribute the latter's film library of more than 4,000 titles in Hong Kong over the next five years. The deal between Shochiku and Panorama, which successfully applied for a public listing in May, was one of two official announcements at the sixth Hong Kong International Film and Television Market, also known as Filmart, which winds up today. This is the first deal that Shochiku has signed with any Hong Kong video distributor for its film library, which spans 107 years and includes classic titles such as "Tora San" and "Twilight Samurai." The deal, with options to renew, includes Shochiku's back-catalog label, Classic Movies, which includes titles by auteurs such as Yasujiro Ozu and Akira Kurosawa. [Note from Daniel: Shochiku is also a distributor for Pistol Opera and the Katakuris.]

From Henshin Online:
1)"...MBS (Mainichi Broadcasting System), the network that airs ULTRAMAN COSMOS every Saturday night in Japan, pulled the show from the air upon hearing of the news. The series was replaced last weekend with an airing of the animated mini-feature ULTRAMAN M-78 THEATER, which was originally paired with ULTRAMAN GAIA: THE BATTLE IN HYPER-SPACE in theaters. An MBS spokesman stated, "We are shocked to learn about the arrest. This has simply shattered children's dreams."
A special two-part episode of the series will be broadcast on June 22 and 29 on MBS, with all scenes featuring the Musashi character edited out. This one-hour presentation is meant to wrap up the series and finish the story for the television broadcast. What will happen after the 2 Cosmos episodes air is still undecided.
Ultraman Cosmos in Eclipse Mode.© 2002 Tsuburaya Productions Co., Ltd According to Tsuburaya Productions, on June 22 MBS will air ULTRAMAN COSMOS SPECIAL EDITION 1: "COSMOS' GREATEST DANGER". One week later, on June 29 ULTRAMAN COSMOS SPECIAL EDITION 2: "COSMOS' FINAL BATTLE" will be shown. The programs will be preceded by a special message from Ultraman Cosmos to the young viewers of his show...
Whether the original uncut episodes will be released in the future (as well as the other unaired episodes) is unknown at press time. Contrary to reports on other Internet newsgroups, mailing lists and message boards, ULTRAMAN COSMOS did not cease production due to this unfortunate incident. Production on the series wrapped several months ago, on April 12, 2001.
Meanwhile, advanced ticket sales for the upcoming theatrical feature ULTRAMAN COSMOS 2: THE BLUE PLANET (and its co-feature ULTRAMAN LEGEND) has been suspended by Shochiku Motion Picture Company, pending a company decision on how to proceed in light of the scandal...
American fans of Ultraman, looking forward to the release of ULTRAMAN TIGA on the FOX Network in the fall of this year, should by no means confuse Sugiura with actor/pop star Hiroshi Nagano who plays Daigo on that series. Production on the dubbing of ULTRAMAN TIGA is still going on at 4Kids Entertainment. Look for an exclusive interview with producer John Kalish, coming soon to Henshin! Online...."
2)"Popular character actor Hideo Mutora, best remembered or his brutal yakuza roles in the BATTLES WITHOUT HONOR AND HUMANITY series or playing cold-hearted ruffians in Period Adventure Dramas, passed away from complications due to Lung Cancer on June 15th at 10:05 pm at The Tokyo Women's Hospital in the Shinjuku Ward of Tokyo. He was 64 years old. Born in the northernmost island of Japan, Hokkaido, Murota appeared in over 1000 films during his long career....
"Tokusatsu fans may remember Murota best as "Harlequin" (aka "Black Diamond") the eye-patched evil officer of Emperor Guillotine in the 1968 Toei Television series JOHNNY SOKKO AND HIS FLYING ROBOT (aka "Giant Robo"). Murota appeared as Harlequin in episodes #8, #10, #11 and #12. He also appeared in other horror and a handful of Horror and SF films: TERROR BENEATH THE SEA, GHOST STORY: THE SNAKE WOMAN, WOLF GUY: THE ENRAGED LYCANTRHOPE, WERECAT IN THE TURKISH BATH HOUSE, THE INUGAMI FAMILY, SAMURAI REINCARNATION, THE PHANTOM LAKE, DOGURA MAGURA, ABUNAI HANASHI: MUGEN MONOGATARI and HIRUKO: THE DEMON HUNTER....
"Asked for his comments, director Kinji Fukasaku was shaken up and deeply saddened to hear about his passing of this timeless actor with whom he worked with very frequently in the past. "He was a very important person. I don't know what to say. In the wake of the news, all I could do was sit down. There is no proper comment I can make at this time," he said in a troubled voice. Obviously, Fukasaku's shock at the passing of the actor could not be held back."
From Monster Zero:
Representatives from Bandai said Kumi Mizuno shot her scenes for GODZILLA X MECHAGODZILLA, currently in production at Toho studios last weekend (June 15th-16th). Mizuno is one of the best known actresses from the classic Toho films of the 1960s. Her best-known role being the beautiful Miss Namikawa from MONSTER ZERO (1965). The rep also said there is a "50/50" chance Bandai will make a Titanosaurus figure in it's next Movie Monster series of vinyl toys. Special guest Shusuke Kaneko, director of the 90's GAMERA films and Toho's GODZILLA, MOTHRA, KING GHIDORAH: GIANT MONSTERS ALL-OUT ATTACK, said he would be willing to do another Godzilla movie if Toho asks him.
A 60 second preview for the upcoming TV anime series G-on Riders can now be viewed on Animate TV. I wouldn't take this too seriously: There`s some rumor circlation that a Japanese live version of Captain Harlock is in production and that Takeshi Kaneshiro would probably play the lead role of Albator/Captain Harlock in this live action adaptation.
From KFC Cinema.
Dragonball Z movie 6 "Return of Cooler" will be release August 13 2002 according to Anime Nation's coming soon list. I also read somewere that DBZ movie 7 will be release January or February 2003.
HK/China: 1)Although Donnie Yen is currently filming SHANGHAI KNIGHTS with Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson, he is also slated to play yet another "baddie" in an as-yet titled HK film to commence lensing soon. Possibly it is one of the first of 6 films that he will be doing for EMI under his new contract with them. Yen has been very busy recently with his "remakes" of classic Bruce Lee films THE BIG BOSS and FISTS OF FURY. It is uncertain if he will continue with this trend and do new versions of WAY OF THE DRAGON and ENTER THE DRAGON with EMI, since his popularity isn't as great as Lee's was back in the late 60's early 70's.
2)Based on his choreography in BLADE II and his starring in the upcoming SHANGHAI KNIGHTS, he just may be the next Asian martial artist to usurp Jet Li's shaky U.S. film throne...Although Guillermo Del Toro has expressed no interest in doing the 3rd BLADE film, we can possibly count on Donnie Yen being involved yet again as fight choreographer.
3) Director John Woo and Nicolas Cage have come to HK for the premiere of "Windtalkers". In the press conference Cage pretty much confirmed that he will be starring in John Woo's next film "Land of Destiny" with Chow Yun-Fat. John Woo is also saddened by the death of his mentor Chang Cheh and recalled Cheh's influence on his films in the press conference. Here's some pics from the event. John Woo, Nicolas Cage with the action figures: Play With Them Now Another pic from the press con: Join Them Here John Woo, Cage and Chow Yun-fat at the premiere: They're Right Here
Japan: 1)The MIB2 Japanese premiere takes places this week and Sony is said to be giving away a rare MIB2 edition of the AIBO at the event. Only 3 of these devices are supposed to exist - one for Sony, one for Will Smith, and one for some lucky audience member at the event. The early buzz is that the Japanese audiences are going crazy over this film!
2)Horror film director Tomishiro Kouseki ("Tomie: Replay") will make a serious film debut with his next release, titled "Ogaya". The film focuses on a middle-aged woman who meets her daughter for the first time after abandoning her, and how their relationship changes once the daughter herself becomes pregnant. The movie, which was filmed in the beautiful Okinawa, will be in theatres this July.
3)Director Toshiki Sato's next film is a psychological/fantasy thriller titled "Yumenara Samete". The story, which stars Nanpo Oomori ("Ichi the Killer"), focuses on a stalker obsessed with a young girl who manages to steal her life and become her... The film should be in theatres next month.
4)Commercial director Kan Ishikawa will make his feature film debut with "Tokyo.Sora". The story is about the romantic escapades of 6 different girls in Tokyo. It should be in theatres within the next 2 months.
5)The highly-anticipated new film from VFX wizard Takeshi Yamazaki ("Juvenile"), titled "Returner", has now been completed and is heading into post-production. The trailer is in theatres now, and looks just AWESOME!! Some of the scenes look very much like "The Matrix" and "MIB 2". You can check out some of the images at the film's website: http://www.returner.net

From DVD File:
"It's funny that so much is made these days of "revisionist filmmaking" and the mad, mad, mad rush to redo and reissue today's modern favorites. But before there was a Blade Runner, a Star Wars or an E.T., there was Fritz Lang's Metropolis, easily one of the most re-released and reissued films in history. (Just how many soundtracks has this film gotten, anyway?) But if Kino International has their way, we may just finally see the definitive version of this sci-fi classic this summer. Hitting theaters this July in select markets is a newly-restored 147-minute version of the film, complete with newly-discovered footage and a new score by composer Gottfried Huppertz with a 65-piece orchestra.
With the film making the rounds this year, the DVD won't be out until 2003. Kino has not yet announced what plans they have for the DVD, but check out the official website for details on the restoration, the trailer, and more..."
In quite a shocking announcement this morning, Pioneer informed us that Cardcaptors 10: Toying Around TV Version has been totally canceled for both VHS and DVD. Does this spell the end for the English version of the show?

From Monster Zero:
Well known Japanese actor Shin Takuma will appear in an unknown role in Toho's latest Godzilla film GODZILLA X MECHAGODZILLA. This is his third appearance in a Godzilla film with his first in the the role of Hiroshi Okumura in Godzilla 1984. Okumura was the lone survivor of the ship from the beginning of that film. Takuma also had a small role in GODZILLA VS BIOLLANTE.
The information on Takuma's appearance was gleaned from the cover of a GXMG script that appeared on a Yahoo Japan auction and was translated with the help of Ubu Suzuki on the Monster Zero message boards.

Numerous parties have commented on the confusion about the difference between Anime Expo New York (AXNY) and Big Apple Anime Fest (BAAF). The following is our explanation of the differences:
Anime Expo New York is headed by representatives of The Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA). There are no representatives of Big Apple Anime Fest anywhere within Anime Expo New York or SPJA management. BAAF also has no ability to dictate the activities at Anime Expo New York.
BAAF is a sponsor of AXNY. In exchange for financial sponsorships of activities as well as providing Guests of Honor, they have qualified for sponsorships within the convention in the same way that Bandai and AD Vision have at both Anime Expo and Anime Expo New York.
Admission to AXNY does not get you into BAAF and paying for BAAF activities does not get you into Anime Expo New York. The two were intended to be separate events. The decision was made by BAAF to switch to Labor Day weekend because they believed that they would be doing a greater service to fans by having one weekend of anime activities instead of having to choose between two events on two separate weekends.
Anime Expo New York will be similar to Anime Expo. We will have an exhibit hall, live programming, video rooms, masquerade, music videos, an art show, meet the guests reception, industry reception, a charity auction and numerous other activities. Our understanding is that this year, Big Apple Anime Fest will have a film program at the Director's Guild, an academic symposium at the Japan Society Building, an industry symposium at the Marriott (before AXNY) and an autograph session at the Virgin Megastore. BAAF will have no official events at the Marriott during AXNY. They will, however, be selling tickets to some of their events from tables and booths within the Marriott.
For additional information on Anime Expo New York, please visit us at www.axny.org
