Geared toward readers ages 3 to 6 and individually priced at $3.99, Jr. Cine-Manga books have a 6"X9" trim-size and feature an average of two art panels per page. Complemented by large manga-style text balloons, captions and sound effects, Jr. Cine-Manga books enable younger children to easily make the transition from television to the printed page. Bridging the gap between on-screen entertainment and more traditional children's books, Jr. Cine-Manga books are a natural fit for children who are growing up and learning in an increasingly multimedia world.
The first titles to be released under this exciting new publishing umbrella will be Hasbrofs My Little Pony: Friends Are Never Far Away, under license from the Hasbro Properties Group, the intellectual property development arm of Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE: HAS), Sesame Street: Happy, Healthy Monsters and Sesame Street: Elmo and Zoe Fly a Kite.
According to Elizabeth Hurchalla, Senior Editor, TOKYOPOP: "In contrast to most children's books, which typically rely on flat character illustrations, Jr Cine-Manga books are created with screen captures or on-set photography so the characters look exactly as they do on the television screen. This great feature will help kids immediately connect with them."
"TOKYOPOP has done a fantastic job of bringing Hasbro's MY LITTLE PONY brand to life through its Jr. Cine-Manga books," said Tom Klusaritz, VP Licensing and New Business Development. "With these books, MY LITTLE PONY fans will have a new way to enjoy their favorite pony characters."
Sesame Workshop's education experts agree. Anna Housley Juster, Director of Content for Sesame Street, explains that the unique storybook format can promote extended storytelling. "The vivid photographs and printed words evoke the magic of the spoken word and engaging dialogue," says Housley Juster, who conducts frequent testing with preschoolers while performing research for the show. "As children and caregivers read together, children who are already reading can take on various roles with diverse voices."
The My Little Pony: Friends Are Never Far Away; Sesame Street: Elmo and Zoe Fly a Kite and Sesame Street: Happy, Healthy Monsters Cine-Manga will be available in bookstores everywhere in July.

ABOUT HARE + GUU
The surreal and outlandish comedy Hare+Guu begins when a young boy's peaceful life is interrupted by his mother's adoption of an orphaned girl- a girl that's not exactly human, who has an alternate dimension of weird people and bizarre creatures living in her stomach, and whose sole purpose for existence seems to be making the young boy's life a living hell. And that's just the first episode! The Hare+Guu television series, produced by Square Enix and animated by the world famous Shin'ei Doga production studio, has been a smash hit internationally. In its native Japan, the series has spawned a pair of award winning sequel series. In America, the series has become a cult sensation among devoted anime fans.

"Inuyasha is an outstanding manga with a strong fan base," said Carl Braun the Product Development Manager for Score Entertainment. "Rumiko Takahashi's signature cards are a historic marker not only for the Inuyasha TCG, but for Anime fans in general."
Beginning with the Inuyasha TCG championship, fans will have several different outlets to receive a specially designed one-of-a-kind autographed Inuyasha trading card.

Rumiko Takahashi began publishing Inuyasha in 1996, and has seen her manga translated and published in eight countries around the world. In the Japanese market alone, sales of Inuyasha publications total more than 35 million units. Inuyasha's staggering popularity makes the release of the autographed cards unique and the first of very few in the United States.

Unquestionably one of the most frequently requested series ever among American anime fans, AN Entertainment is excited to fulfill this overwhelming demand by bringing English speaking viewers a faithful and authentic presentation of both the original TV series and its follow-up home video series, Hare+Guu Deluxe. With a robust cast of eccentric characters, a non-stop barrage of weird and wacky situations, and parodies of everything from anime to video games to the little eccentricities of everyday life, Hare+Guu is undoubtedly one of the very best anime comedy series ever created.
Created in 1997 by female manga artist Renjuro Kindaichi, the Hare+Guu manga serial continues to headline the monthly Japanese Shonen GanGan magazine. In April 2001, the comic was adapted into a television series that spanned 26 broadcast episodes and two made-for-home-video "OAV" series, all produced by the Shin'ei Doga production studio best known for the international smash hit anime comedy Crayon Shin-chan, and directed by veteran Crayon Shin-chan director Tsutomu Mizushima.
One year after the series' coronation at #1 in Nielsen BookScan sales reports, TOKYOPOP is releasing Princess Ai: Lumination, the second book in the Gothic fantasy thrillogy, created by an unparalleled royal manga family that includes writer-producer D.J. Milky (the upcoming Juror 13), renowned Japanese artist Misaho Kujiradou, rock and film star Courtney Love and celebrated international manga-ka Ai Yazawa (Paradise Kiss).
Marking a crowning achievement for TOKYOPOP, the release of Princess Ai's second installment brings TOKYOPOP's tally of manga volumes to one thousand...and counting! In celebration of this seminal moment in its history, the company is thrilled to announce a cosplay contest at San Diego Comic-Con on July 16, 2005. Fans are encouraged and challenged to create their favorite Princess Ai outfit for the chance to receive fabulous prizes, including free cell phones, wallpaper downloads, T-shirts-all of which are part of the full line of Princess Ai merchandise that also includes posters, calendars and bookmarks.
And the royal merchandise treatment doesn't stop there! Bleeding Edge, a cutting-edge Los Angeles-based collectible doll manufacturer, is launching a line of Princess Ai 12" fashion dolls and 7" vinyl dolls. Featuring the unique fashions that Princess Ai sports, along with her mysterious locket and signature ripped stockings, each doll will come with a sampler of Princess Ai: Lumination. In addition, Princess Ai: Lumination will feature pages that depict the process of designing, sculpting and manufacturing the dolls.
Princess Ai: Lumination continues the amazing journey of Ai, a mysterious alien who is lost in our world. Throw in a group of assassins hot on her tail, crowds of protesters, and an adventure filled with the unexpected risks of fame, Lumination is shaping up to surpass the success of the series' debut volume.
"It has truly been a privilege to work with such an amazing group of creators on this very special project," said D.J. Milky, co-creator of the series. "Courtney is really a visionary who has gone through many trials and tribulations, Yazawa-san was so incredibly creative that it blew me away, and seeing Kujiradou-san's storyboards and pencils come through chapter by chapter has been nothing short of magical."
"I think last year's release of Princess Ai raised the bar in manga storytelling, with its unique blend of out-of-this world fantasy mixed with a cool, lyrical authentic narrative," added Rob Tokar, TOKYOPOP senior editor. "We have an unmatched creative team behind the franchise and fair warning to all, for the next volume, we have many more twists and turns up our sleeves!"
Princess Ai: Lumination will be available beginning in July at all major
book, comic, video, specialty and music stores nationwide at $9.99
(SRP).

Pictured right (click to enlarge) is a gem we uncovered buried in the 50+ pounds (no joking) of loot we brought back from the Tokyo Anime Fair. One of the major sleeper announcements out of there this year came in the form of a simple glossy black one-sheet tucked away into the promotional porfolio of the company MICOTT & BASARA INC. The flyer is entirely in English and reads: Produced By John Woo
POSEIDON Project
Based on APPLESEED/Masamune Shirow
Director Shinji Aramaki
Movie & TV Series 26 Episodes
Executive Producer Yasuhiko Kinoshita & Sumiji Miyake
Producers Hidenori Ueki & Naoko Watanabe
Based on APPLESEED SEISHINSHA
Production DIGITAL FRONTIER
Below this 3 company logos are pictured: MICOTT & BASARA INC. - LION ROCK PRODUCTIONS - AXIS ENTERTAINMENT
The story behind the flyer goes a bit deeper as ANS learned from Micott And Basara. On March 31st the company finalized the partnership and held a press conference at the Ariake Washington Hotel in Tokyo. Poseidon will represent a truly global effort to develop this new work on several scales including image contents production and distribution. Computer-generated animation etc. for the project will come via cooperation with Lion Rock Productions headquartered in Hong Kong (represented by Terence Chang and John Woo) and Axis Entertainment headquartered in the United States in California represented by Joseph Chou.
Newcomer Axis Entertainment will handle the distribution of the works in North America while mediating various ideas, concepts, staff, and the contents donors in the worldwide market. John Woo has brought the world films which have gone on to make the director a cult icon, they include: "A Better Tomorrow", "MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 2", and "Faceoff".
Mr. Miyake explained at the press event that they are aiming for a different CG feel than the works see out of companies like Pixar and DreamWorks and that they wanted to tackle a project whose contents were able to be developed with foreign countries globally. Miyake-san met Mr. Joseph Chou who was still at Warner who evaluated the idea highly. Joseph put Miyake in contact with Mr. Terence Chang and Director John Woo whose further high appraisal was gotten similarly. The target figure of initial DVD sales is 300,000 units in North America with the possibility of reaching a 500,000 unit benchmark. The work is being produced with global market aim however.
Director John Woo mentioned: "I was very surprised to see 'Apple Seed' this time." His first impression was not that of viewing an animated cartoon movie but a usual movie. He added that it is very adequate as the camera work and design along with the story is also moving. The combination such as these artworks and CG was a new one for him. Moreover, the action was very near live action film. Woo said he respects supervisor Aramaki, and he thinks that it is worth respect very much to have produced this movie with combinations including the image, CG, and music. John Woo's supervision can be seen in the action scene choreography, clothes, and the story composition as well as production. Opening of the film to the public is scheduled for the summer of 2006.
"The opportunity to lead TOKYOPOP into the next phase of our Manga Revolution is an honor," said Kiley. "I look forward to this challenge and to the chance to take our publishing program into exciting and innovative new areas."
"I am thrilled to pass the moniker of Publisher and Editor-in-Chief to Mike," said Stu Levy. "With his extensive publishing background, creative talent and love for pop culture, he is the perfect choice for this new role." Adds Levy, "Knowing that Mike will capably carry the TOKYOPOP banner forward into exciting new realms will afford me the opportunity to comfortably shift my focus to Corporate Group Strategy, Strategic Partnerships and Group Finance."
Kiley began his professional career as an academic bookseller at the University of California, Irvine campus store. After a quick rise through the ranks of management, he ultimately became responsible for the operation of an eight-location enterprise. In 1992, Kiley developed and launched the first academic bookstore in cyberspace, an endeavor that served the needs of thousands of customers worldwide. Less than two years later, these operations were migrated onto a site on the World Wide Web. By 1996, Kiley had leveraged his lifelong interest in Japanese culture to develop a new UCI web venture -- the marketing and sale of products related to Japanese animation, pop music and video games. This pioneering effort ultimately grew to become the pre-eminent site of its kind on the net. Joining TOKYOPOP in 1998, Mike founded the company's internet business, a vibrant blend of online commerce, content and community. In recent months, Kiley had been promoted to TOKYOPOP's Editor-in-Chief from his previous role as V.P. of Internet technology, operations and human resources.

Nakata has been called "the spiritual godfather of Japanese horror" (Entertainment Weekly), and the acclaimed director was even named one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People in 2004. Nakata is credited with helping to usher in a new era of smart, suspenseful, and visually rich horror films. "In his thrillers, Nakata concentrates less on the explosion of the time bomb than on the ticking inside it; abstract images on a videotape, an aquarium tank full of dead fish, water stain spreading on a ceiling" (Time). "Dark Water is a classic example of what a director can do effectively with skill and imagination without spending millions of dollars on special effects," said John Ledford, president, CEO and co-founder of ADV Films. "We are proud to present the work of this outstanding director to American moviegoers." The Touchstone Pictures adaptation of Dark Water stars Jennifer Connelly and John C. Reilly. Directed by Walter Salles (The Motorcycle Diaries, Central Station) and produced by Bill Mechanic (Coraline), the US remake opens in theaters July 8.

The Association of Japanese Animations (AJA), which was out in force at last Month's Tokyo Anime Fair pushing it's recently launched anti-piracy initiative has taken the message to the Recycling Bookstore Kyougikai (Conference). The aim is halting purchases and distribution of pirate edition animation DVD's on the second hand market, which has boomed in popularity and outlets across Japan recently. Both organizations recently agreed to mutual cooperation in the effort which will extend into the conference's member stores and hopefully prevent bootleg anime media from flowing out to the market. Both parties agreed this was crucial to maintaining a healthy animation DVD market. The AJA acknowledges spread of such pirated goods as an epidemic, with examples being discovered in shops increasingly recently with about 3 million DVD's circulating via the venue annually.
The Recycling Bookstore Conference Secretariat was founded on December 1st, 2001 and is located in Kanagawa Prefecture Sagamihara City chaired by Mr. Takashi Sakamoto. Seven nationwide chains making up the major Japanese companies dealing in used books sales have joined as of April, 2005.

Robin Williams Praises Anime
Speaking about his new 20th Century Fox animated release, Robots, by Oscar-winning director Chris Wedge, Robin Williams saluted Japanese anime filmmakers saying: "I am a big fan of Japanese animation. They make movies like Innocence: Ghost In The Shell 2 and Applesed in which they really look at the darker themes and I am fascinated by what they do. I love animation. It allows me to be free to create a character that is totally different than me. And with the Japanese, every film pushes the envelope a little further."4-12-05 (12:30AM EST)---- Updates Notice: ANS Moving To Japan
