Yes, we are aware our site has been hacked. While we were at Anime Central this past weekend, we were also in the process of changing our servers. Unfortunately, we were not able to devote 100% of our time to the switch and we were invaded by the Poison Box hackers. We have since corrected the problem and the sitre is back up an running!
As many of you know, we had lots of great exclusive Fanboy products on sale at Anime Central last weekend. Not all of the products sold out though and we wanted to make them available on the web to fans across the country who didn't make the con. However, with our website now down, this presented a slight problem. So we've done the next best thing and taken some of the items to eBay where we are offering them for their original sale prices. The two items up on eBay now are the super popular Range Murata postcard set and the almost sold out Range Murata 2001 "Build It Yourself" Calendar. Click the following links to check out the items:

TOKYOPOP® Anime's first title, Shoji Kawamori's Spring & Chaos, will arrive in stores Tuesday, May 29, 2001, as a Special Collector's Edition DVD. To commemorate the release of this special film by the visionary anime director Shoji Kawamori, creator of such well-known titles as Macross and Escaflowne, each limited edition DVD comes in a collectible slipcase and includes a limited run animation cel from the film. Kawamori received his start in 1978 when, at the age of 18, he was tapped by STUDIO Nue to design mechanized robots for their new anime series, Daimos. With his next project, Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, he cemented his reputation as an innovator of animated design with the creation of the Valkyrie, a transforming US Navy F-14 fighter plane, which was an introduction to anime for many fans worldwide. He would bring this renowned design sense to many of the most famous anime titles ever produced including, Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory, PATLABOR 2: The Movie, and Wings of Escaflowne along with several returns to his most famous creation including Macross 7 and Macross Plus. In 1996, Kawamori lent his vision in celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of one of Japan's most respected poets, Kenji Miyazawa, with the film Spring & Chaos. The film symbolically recounts the life of Miyazawa and his work, which is known for its dramatic and surreal imagery. Kawamori exquisitely and powerfully portrays the heart of Miyazawa, the man and his works, in this animation masterpiece. To capture the essence of this scientist/poet, Kawamori employs several different animation techniques, including pencil animation, CGI, and hand-drawn animation. It is a must-see work for anyone interested in animation, Japanese culture, and the expression of art on film.
Spring & Chaos also includes, in addition to the special features, a booklet with facts about the film, biographical information about Kawamori and Miyazawa, and a poem written by Miyazawa in 1924. The DVD itself also includes a special interview with Kawamori and Producer/Sound Director Atsumi Tashiro.

The The Right Stuf site has given an explanation via Pioneer about why Cardcaptor Sakura #4 is due out in January 2002:
Pioneer Entertainment regrets to announce that Cardcaptor Sakura 4: Sakura Fight! has been postponed to January 2002 in accordance to our Licensor's request. This request does not affect other Cardcaptor Sakura volumes, so Cardcaptor Sakura 5: Vacation Daze will still be released on 9/11/01. Pioneer Entertainment appreciates your patience and your understanding regarding this unexpected and unfortunate delay and we will attempt to compensate you, our loyal consumers, for the delay through an additional limited edition bonus available with the release of Volume 4. We will announce more details later this year as they become finalized. Thank you for your continuing support.
Right Stuf has updated with news that the first volume of Vampire Princess Miyu TV and Saint Tail are due on 8/28, both bilingual discs have a running time of 75 minutes and a retail price of $29.99. A dub VHS release is due also but no subtitled VHS release is planned.
Manga Entertainment has made some release date changes, Blood is switched from a 7/31 to an 8/28 release, while X is set for a 9/25 street date.
Unconfirmed: A post in the forum by an E3 attendee indicated that a Pioneer rep at E3 (the Electronics Entertainment Expo held just last week) gave notice that they've licensed Gatekeepers and intend to have it out in September.
The Boston Museum of Fine Arts is running an exhibit entitled "Takashi Murakami: Mad in Japan" April 25th-Septembe 3rd. His work features take offs on anime and manga with a character named Mr DOB. The exhibit as discusses the concepts of kawii and otaku. A number of the works have a psychedelic bend, but given the contents of an art book in the museum's gift shop, it looks like they chose some of his tamer works. The MFA is also currently exhibiting color prints from Japan's Meji era.
Metropolis is so stunning visually that Sony Pictures has decided to forgo subtitling the film. It will be dubbed into English, and available at least at first only in a dubbed version. The film should be released in the U.S. early next year.
According to an update at Anime Nation, Hand Maid May Vol. #1 and Niea_7 Vol. #1 will both street on 08/14/2001. Both volumes will contain 4 episodes and retail for 29.99$. Pioneer's making Niea_7 their first DVD exclusive release, something other companies have been doing for a bit now. Hand Maid May runs for 10 episodes plus 1 special direct to video episode at the end and Niea_7 runs for 13 episodes. According to TRSI, Sailor Moon S TV Vol. #4 will arrive on 8/14 as well, bringing more Sailor Moon goodness to its fans. TRSI has also announced their latest title acquisition and release, Yamamoto Yohko, Starship Girl, which will be out on 9/25 for 39.95$, containing the six OVA's. I've personally not heard this title being licensed yet, so hopefully we'll learn more soon!
After we posted the information yesterday on certain Pioneer delayed discs, some new information came to light with different dates. According to the Pioneer rep posting in the forum, the Fushigi Yugi OVA box set is scheduled to street on 6/5 and the Kishin Corps/Geo Armor disc is on 6/19. Kishin was delayed initially awhile ago to move up to a 2 disc release to improve video quality, and this secondary delay was due to the discovery of two episodes being dubtitled instead of properly subtitled, so that needed to be fixed. Both releases are now in replication.
David Williams of ADV has just posted that they will be releasing the first volume of the Original Dirty Pair OVA series onto DVD on 7/17/2001. This disc will contain the first 5 of 10 OVA's and if it sells well (as it should), it should help spur the acquisition of the full TV series.
A major theme of the movie is the coexistance of man and robotic machines on the not so distant horizon, in honor of that concept, Honda Technological Research's real life robotic creation "ASIMO" and the Sony Electronic's popular robot pet "AIBO" joined cast and staff on stage. A question asked to Asimo regarding the film's completion resulted with the following response: "please support". Metropolis opens in theaters across Japan on May 26th via Toho Co., Ltd.
The Hades trailer than was showed in Toulon Festival. here Jose Rene Ruiz Lainez sent the following message: This video is amazing, i hope than Oliver Gilbert and your organization make Hades saga in anime. Too, read this little interview than i make to Oliver Gilbert.
Oliver Gilvert: Hi,
Thank you for your message.
The Saint Seiya trailer was presenting during the event, and it was a big success.
Some people from Toei Animation were present to see it, but i don't know if they decided to change their opinion and decide to continue the anime. If they don't want to continue, it's possible that our own organisation will buy the Saint Seiya rights in order to continue ourself the Saint Seiya anime.
Questions:
Rene> - Tell me more about your "own organization"_?
Oliver: The Cartoonist event is an association, but we created too a firm last year in order to create some products (art-books, postcards, and so on..)
Rene> - If Toei Animation dont make Hades saga in Anime, How or Who you buy >the rights of Saint Seiya_?
Oliver: I know the designers for 6 years, and i think it will more easy to buy the rights because of that. Mr Kurumada have the rights of Saint seiya.
Rene> - If you can buy the rights of Saint Seiya, how you think to do, >In ovas or Tv Series_?
Oliver: Perhaps, first in OVA, and if it's works good, in TV series after.
Rene> - Kuruma know and work in your project_?
Oliver: We must ask him before. I think i'll come to Japan next September to present him all the project.
Rene> - And if you can buy the rights of Saint Seiya, you think make >only Hades saga or you think make the Heaven saga if it´s possible_?
Oliver: It will depend of the success of the first saga.
Rene> Thank You for try one dream reality.
Oliver: Best regards...
O.GILBERT

Mr. Asaka joined the renowned animation studio Madhouse in 1987. During that time, he has worked on a wide variety of genres and titles. He served as Animation Supervisor for Yawara and Azuki-chan. His directing credits include the Rumiko Takahashi OVA Mermaid's Scar and Yuugen Kaisha (Phantom Quest Corp). However, without a doubt, he will be most recognized as the chief director of the Card Captor Sakura TV series and as the director for both Card Captor Sakura movies. His most recent project is as Chief Director for the new TV series Galaxy Engel. This is Mr. Asaka's first U.S. convention appearance.
I'd just like to go on record (again) as saying that the title change to "Mobile Suit Gundam Wing" from "New Mobile Report Gundam Wing" in the U.S. was the idea of Sunrise. Since Gundam Wing was the first Gundam of the franchise to appear here, they felt it would be a good idea to give it the same moniker as most of the other series in the franchise, especially since they wanted to make the term "Mobile Suit" something that was easily undertood and recognizable by american viewers. It was their choice. Bandai Entertainment did not change the title during our adaptation of the title. We are very conscious of the anime fans and we do take their opinions into consideration. However, in this instance, it simply was not a choice that was ours to make. In this case, I don't think it makes much difference either way. Whether or not you like it or not, there it is.

Well, the two new tapes that I've been watching have had no such errors on them. Who is responsible for that depends on who you bought the tapes from. Different stores use different tape duplicator companies to mass produce their tapes. The ones here at the FUNi store are just fine (that is, not blue stripe or other tape mess-ups). I believe that what a lot of people have gotten was just a 'bad batch' from a large dupe company. As far as rectifying the situation, FUNimation does warranty their tapes. However, the place to go is wherever the defective tape was purchased from and get a replacement from them. Hope this answers it.

Jerry Robinson, the artist who collaborated with Bob Kane and Bill Finger on the original Batman and who gave the world Batman's first great supervillain--The Joker--is participating in a unique international collaboration with writer Ken-ichi Oishi (Hotel) and artist Shojin Tanaka to create Astra, a science fiction manga with strong elements of classic "good girl" art. Astra is a beautiful, blonde interstellar princess who has never seen a man, since all the men on her planet were killed in an interplanetary war. Her search for the manly essence needed to continue her race forms the basis for this eight issue mini-series which debuts in July from CPM Manga.
Astra was originally conceived as a theatrical musical, but Robinson found that the basic storyline intrigued his Japanese friends. The result of their mutual interest is one of the first truly trans-Pacific comics. Robinson obviously enjoyed the experience, "The collaboration between Sidra Cohn and myself and the Japanese artists has been an enriching experience. I am sure there will be more such creative crossfertilization between continents an cultures in the future."
Astra #1 will ship with two different covers in equal ratios. The original cover by Shojin Tanaka (Metal Boy, Maniacs 21) and an alternate cover by fan favorite Jim Balent (Catwoman, Tarot, Witch of the Black Rose). The second issue will also ship 50/50 with a second cover by Frank Thorne (Red Sonja). A very limited edition of 500 Astra #1's signed by Jerry Robinson is also available with a cover price of $29.95. The regular edition carries a cover price of $2.95. Astra #1 is being solicited in the May edition of Diamond Previews.

The Kyto story arc of Rurouni Kenshin has started in the US. The story, which is considered the highlight of the fan favorite samurai action/drama series runs from episodes 28-62 of the TV series. Episodes 28-31 where recently released in the volume labeled "Shadow of the Wolf" and episodes 32-25 will be released in the volume labeled "Ice Blue Eyes" on May 29th. Rurouni Kenshin is the story of Himura Kenshin, who was once the feared swordsman political assassin and bodyguard known as the Hitokiri Battousai, who swore never to kill again, and took a reserved edged sword. In the Kyoto arc Kenshin's oath never to kill again is challenged when the man who replaced him as Hitokiri returns with a army in hopes of starting a new revolution. The story arts when a former member of the Shinshin Gumi, a lethal group of lawmen from Kenshin's days as the Hitokiri Battousa, insists that Kenshin had weakened since abandoning killing, and tries to prove it by killing him. For an interesting look at the true historical characters and groups from Rurouni Kenshin see here.
Unlike the post-nuclear world in the original story, "The Fist of the blue sky" takes place in a non-fictional background in Japan, post Japanese-Russo War. Kenshirou- known as "En-oh" (Hell King); the legendary man who destroyed a criminal cartel single handedly in Shanghai, lives a simple life as a college teacher in Japan. The story begins as one of Kenshirou's old friend from Shanghai risks his life to meet him in Japan by boarding on a Manchurian military vessel as a food tester to the Manchurian Emperor, being a poor beggar with no alternative to travel. The Emperor- always fearing the possibility of an assassination, decides to find the legendary "En-oh" to hire him as protection, and orders his men to follow after Kenshirou's old friend in possibilities that he may know something. When finding Kenshirou, the emperor's thugs attempt to kill him instead, in order not to have their jobs as a bodyguard replaced by him. However, Kenshirou brings defeat over the thugs, and quotes the famous phrase "You're Already dead".
"Weekly Bunch Magazine" - produced by Coa Magazine and published & distributed by Shinchousha publishing, is the creation of a group of manga artist and related staffs who find recent movements in the manga industry to be unsatisfactory. Staffs include former editors and members of the "Weekly Jump" magazine, as well as voice actor Arika Kamiya.
Also a new debut in the "Weekly Bunch" magazine, Tsukasa Houjou- known for his famed title "City Hunter" began a new series "Angel Heart" The Story takes place in Shinjuku, Tokyo- likewise to "City Hunter". The main character is a female assassin from Taiwan, raised strictly to kill. After the first 3 pages of the opening, the main character commits suicide by falling off a building, not wanting to continue a life of murder. Being an important human resource to her cartel, doctors revive her by implanting a heart, stolen during a transportation. The story takes an interesting turn, as the stolen organ turns out to be that of Kaoru's, from "City Hunter". Her husband- Ryo Saeba (City Hunter's main character), believes that Kaoru (the heart) will return to Shinjuku, through his keen instincts.
John Sirabella of Media Blasters was asked about when a "less cut" Kite will make it to DVD. He stated that it would be on DVD by December. FLCL from Synch Point will have more than one episode per disc, but it's not locked down yet, and speculation leads to 2 episodes/3 discs total. Asked about acquiring more shoujo based on Princess 9's sales, ADV's Matt and David both gave enthusiastic responses of yes. They said there many series that they are eyeing, and would love to bring them over if people were interested. ADV also said that they are very happy with the 6 disc release schedule, and will be using it for a lot of future releases. And finally, "Ardith (of Synch Point) looked great in her black dress".
According to forum reader Don, some interesting bits came up during the Right Stuf panel regarding Kare Kano:
They'll be doing alternate angles for next episode previews There will be multiple subtitle tracks It will most likely be 4 DVD's Title will be "His & Her Circumstance" (unless I didn't hear an "s" at the end)
The second Patlabor movie premiered on the Spanish language Fox station last Saturday(May 12th), and was run twice the next Sunday at last Saturday May 12th, premiered Patlabor 2 the at 00:00 and 22:00 central time Mexico/USA. Mini-marathons of Flint el Dective del Tiempo, and the Super Cerdita (Super pig, Saban's version of Tonde Boorin) will be run on May 19th and 26th respectively. The next premiere of the Spanish language fox will be that of Cyberteam in Akihabara (Akihabara Denno Gummi) on June 2nd. There is confusion as to whether it is the movie of TV series that will be shown. Xystus, the television distributor company for Latinamerica, says in their page that have the rights for the movie Cyberteam in Akihabara: summer of 2011 vacation. This company also have the rights for the Patlabor movies and series, so, maybe the premiere will be the movie. No official announcements from Fox Kids. Thanks to César De la luz for the information.

Readers of Anime On DVD:
sent us a bit of news regarding Bandai, and a state of the industry in general. As seems to be the way, Love Hina's eventual release will be DVD only. Considering most folks aren't expecting it until next year, it makes even more sense. Most of Bandai's releases for this year are DVD only already. The general feel is that unless it's part of their TV lineup, it'll get the disc only treatment. But even there things aren't as they seem. The Big O won't be getting a VHS release and it looks as if Pilot Candidate won't be either. Indications from other studios including ADV is that the dub tape market is moving south pretty fast.
Anime On DVD reports Pioneer plans to begin releasing the NieA_7 series stateside from this August.

Viz Comics is publishing English language editions of a series of anime art books that should prove to be an important product line for retailers who deal in anime and manga. In fact many of these books have already done quite well in the U.S. market in Japanese language editions, but they should sell much better in English, since the vast majority of American anime fans cannot read Japanese and thus they have missed the captions, the interviews, and episode guides that these anime art books often provide. Hardcore anime fans who already own some of these books in Japanese editions will still want to own the English versions, and these visually stunning art books will appeal to a much larger audience now that they are linguistically accessible. Also since these volumes will be available for reorders, dealers can stock thinly and reorder quickly when the volume is sold out.
The first book in the series, The Art of Gundam Wing is available now. With 130 pages of character and mecha art from anime powerhouse Studio Sunrise, this volume should benefit from Bandai's yearlong Gundam push, which includes a Gundam Interactive Tour of America (see "Bandai America Unveils New Line"). The Gundam Wing anime is running on the Cartoon Network's Toonami block right now, and other Gundam series that have never been on U.S television are slated for later in the year. This is one volume you will want to keep in stock right through the holiday season. The Art of Ranma ½ is slated for a July release. This sumptuous volume includes original pastel, watercolor, and colored pencil artwork by the gifted Rumiko Takahashi, plus profiles of every wacky character in the series. In early 2002 Viz will publish The Art of Inu-Yasha, which is based on the latest manga series by Rumiko Takahashi, which has provided the source material for one of the top anime shows in Japan right now.
Another book in this series that should sell as well as the Gundam or Rumiko Takahashi books is Der Mond, which collects the color illustrations of Yoshiyuki Sadamoto in an English edition for the first time. This volume will appeal to fans of Neon Genesis Evangelion, since Mr. Sadamoto was the character designer for that series, responsible both for creating the strange beauty of the blue-haired Rei Ayanami as well as the Evangelions themselves. Sadamoto, who also provided character designs for the brilliant space saga Wings of Honneamise, is undoubtedly one of Japan's greatest modern artists, and his works are essential for anyone who is interested in science fiction anime. This volume will ship in September and will retail for $29.95. For fans of shojo manga (girl's comics), Fushigi Yugi artist and writer Yu Watase is a top-tier creator, and The Art of Ceres, Celestial Legend only confirms her lofty status. The Art of Ceres will be released in October and will retail for $24.95.
Though some might quibble that the Art of Ceres and the Takahashi book are really collections of "manga" art, it doesn't matter one whit since anime fans are familiar with these properties. The Anime Art Gallery is an excellent line extension for Viz Comics, and for any store that sells anime or manga.
