The Matrix anime will be a 5-part series. Kawijiri is directing one episode, Mahrio Maeda(Blue Sub) another, and Square is producing another episode. There's a lot more on it at Anime News Network
"Over 150 theaters will continue to show "Sen" into 2002.
"Tokuma is currently in the negotiation with both Disney and DreamWorks
concerning the US release of "Sen".
"Miyazaki-San commented on his next film, "there might be a chance, if it's
(a film to be released) in the summer of 2004. I have to go into the totally
different field (from where I've been) before."
""Sen"'s stay at the top might be short-lived, as "Harry Potter" looks to be
a strong performer in Japan once it opens in early 2002."

"In a recent interview with The Financial Times, Kunitake Ando, president and CEO of Sony, said that the Microsoft Xbox, which comes with a hard drive and Ethernet adapter out of the box, could force the company to transition to the PS3 earlier than intended. "The biggest threat to the PlayStation 2 is that the Xbox changes the industry's life cycle," said Ando, who feels that it is unclear whether the current PS2 business model is sustainable and that its console life cycle could be reduced to three years as a result. Although sales of the PlayStation 2 console remain strong, Ando said that the company is still in the process of recuperating its high front-end chip manufacturing costs....
"Research for and development of the PlayStation 3 is already under way. Sony has partnered with Toshiba and IBM, as part of a combined $400 million, five-year investment, to develop the technology for the PS3. Production of the chip, at last report, was slated to begin in 2004. According to Sony, the new chip design will be fundamentally different from what the company has used in the past and will have a greater focus on delivering communication and broadband services."
At www.advfilms.com, they have this to say about the Oprhen statue:
"Due to the overwhelmingly positive response to the Limited Edition Orphen statue, ADV Films has recently been able to negotiate a limited, one-time reproduction of more of the best statue in town! Originally solicited at $179.95, because of such limited supply, this beautiful statue is being made available at a drastically reduced price of only $69.98! To top it all off, ADV will be offering a refund to all of you already paid the original price! What a deal! We could only acquire two-hundred more, so get your orders in NOW because once these are gone, they are gone for good!"
Despite the lukewarm success(at least based on AICN's opinion) of the re-made Game of Death in Japan, Bruce Lee is still loved.
"The late, legendary martial arts movie star Bruce Lee will live again in a new feature film via the wonders of computer effects.
"The Korean ShinCine production, headed by Chul Shin and partially backed by Samsung, has acquired the rights to Lee's likeness from his estate to be featured prominently in a $50M chop socky project called DRAGON WARRIOR.
"The film's script is currently going through its third draft and will be further refined with an eye towards American audiences.
"DRAGON WARRIOR will be the first film to digitally recreate a known actor for a major film role. Still, don't expect this to happen overnight, due to word that ShinCine has not, as yet, selected a studio to create the film's CG material."
"Regarding the project, Lee's daughter, Shannon Lee, explained why the family agreed to allow her father's image to be recreated, saying, "we believe in ShinCine's and Mr. Shin's enthusiasm and commitment to making a first-rate film.""

- The 7th issue of the dutch language magazine AniWay has hit the streets. It features a cool 'Nadia' cover by Japanese dojin artist ISE-Q, an article about the series and a short story on the 'Atlantis controverse'. A short six page english language manga finally solves this problem. Sort of ^_- http://www.aniway.nl
- The Dutch premiere of Atlantis isn't getting the critics excited, especially with a big hit like Harry Potter looming in the distance. The paper 'Spits' touched shortly on Atlantis' resemblance to 'manga animation story telling' (i.e. no singing animals) although no mention of Nadia was made.
- Currently, the Dutch tv station BNN has a poll running on it's site. Visitors can express their wish for them to broadcast more anime. Which anime they have in mind is unclear at the moment. http://www.omroep.nl/bnn/

It's easy to see why so many cell-phone fanatics -- from investment bankers to monied mall rats -- are snatching up the Sanyo SCP-5000. Selling for $500 (when you can find one), it's the first on the U.S. market with a color display panel that can act as a photo caller-ID system. You can download up to 20 images to match entries in your phone book -- see Junior's picture next time he calls to ask for money -- and a digital readout across the top of the device lets you know who's ringing without your having to flip open the phone. There's room for 500 phone numbers, 300 e-mail addresses, 100 dates like birthdays and anniversaries, 20 to-dos and 15 little reminder alarms. (Unfortunately, you can't transfer that information to your computer.) It all comes in a sleek 3.5-ounce package that's tinier than phones that deliver far less. For fun, you can upload as much as 100KB worth of music onto the phone and set your ringer to a snippet of anything from Janis Joplin to Jay-Z. -- S.D.S.

From the release:TOKYO, November 7th, 2001-NEC Corporation today announced the successful development of its system-on-glass LCD module, an essential component for displaying full-color TV on mobile phones.
The new system-on-glass LCD module can simultaneously display on a split screen content of a full-color TV at a resolution of 352 x 288 and a text indicator, which was until now impossible with conventional mobile displays. The width surrounding the display area has been reduced to less than half of current devices, offering a larger viewing area at high resolution on small mobile phones. The system-on-glass LCD module was created through development of the following.
System-on-glass (low-temperature poly-silicon CMOS thin-film transistor) technology, which can incorporate a driver circuit into the high resolution LCD module, making possible a display of 360 x 480 color pixels, with a resolution of 230 color pixels/inch, on a 2.6-inch reflective-type LCD. Creation of precisely controlled unevenness on the surface of the reflective electrodes and the development of liquid crystal cells ideal for reflective display mode, making possible an ultra-bright display with 260,000 colors and high contrast. NEC's unique partial display technology (partial display mode) that achieves low power consumption by utilizing a panel structure capable of writing voltage data signals in the same way as with common electrodes, and through a driver circuit that decreases power consumption to 1.7mW, at a partial-display mode of 11% (a 90% reduction compared with conventional modules).
As the volume of transmission signals of mobile phones rapidly increase and broadband technology progresses, video displays are increasingly becoming part of the sophisticated makeup of next-generation mobile phone. However, until now, conventional LCD screens used for mobile phones have been unable to display TV content without reducing the number of pixels. NEC, to meet this demand for LCD modules for mobile phones that divide the screen in two, displaying images and content of a high image quality, full-color TV and text indicator, has developed the new system-on-glass LCD module.
NEC believes that this display technology will significantly contribute to achieving next-generation mobile terminals and accordingly is stepping up research and development aiming to bring its system-on-glass LCD module to market as soon as possible.

Nausicaa.net, has a link to where the previously mentioned French event featuring director Miyazaki will be held.
"Never say never", a Cartoon Network representative tells us. The show was taken off with just five episodes (I thought it was more than that) left to go following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, but even after those final episodes run, Mobile Suit Gundam isn't over. "I don't think it's fair to say that we'd never show it again in its entirety," the source continues, hinting that the network's Midnight Run block might be a more suitable home for the series.
Toonami's Creative Director Sean Akins is quoted elsewhere as saying "I think giant robots are the collest thing ever. Anything with giant robots has a good chance of getting on Toonami".
The inagural issue also has an extensive article about Gundam anime, with a substantial emphasis on Universal Century series. It also mentions two forthcoming video releases -- G-Saviour and Char's Counterattack, both sometime in 2002.
Finally the magazine mentions in a "rumor report":
"Sunrise, the studio behind all things Gundam is in the early stages of a new Gundam TV series! Set long after the One Year War in UC 250, this Gundam series is supposed to be about the dark side of rpolonged peace. Humanity's population is overcrowding the entire solar system! With food and water getting scarce, it's inevitable that war will break out once again."
According to the piec, Sunrise is experimenting with a new 3D CGI cel-shaded animation system -- the possible release of the new Gundam series in Japan is slated for 2004, Gundam's 25th anniversary.
There will be tickets available to our program at the door. We’ll be screening a five minute scene from METROPOLIS, the new film by Rintaro, and a five minute preview from SPIRITED AWAY, the new Miyazaki film that has broken TITANIC’s record as the highest grossing film in Japan ever. Parking is free at 8920, 9025, or 9100 Wilshire Blvd.
NEW YORK, November 5, 2001 When The Big Apple Anime Fest (BAAF) wrapped up on Sunday, October 28th, it was apparent to all that the anime festival had far exceeded all expectations. After the events of September 11th, the show's organizers declared that they "would not let New York down," and they certainly did not! Instead, they brought approximately 3,500 anime culture fans to New York from around the world. These people proved their faith in the city by participating non-stop in this first annual weekend-long celebration of Anime Manga Culture.
BAAF started with a bang on Thursday, October 25th as Mayor Rudy Giuliani joined in the festivities at an autograph signing at the Grand Re-opening of J&R Music World. The Mayor modeled the BAAF 2001 Charity T-shirt, sales of which raised more than $2,100 for the New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund.
The excitement continued to grow from that point on, with autograph signings throughout the weekend that drew huge crowds to the Virgin Megastore in Times Square where fans were able to meet and greet their favorite voice actors from anime films.
These included: Eric Stuart--supplier of the voice of "Brock," one of the lead characters from Pokemon and co-lead "Gourry" in The Slayers
Rachael Lillis--an actress best known for her portrayal of the title character in Revolutionary Girl Utena
Crispin Freeman--provider of voices for characters in countless anime films including major roles in Revolutionary Girl Utena and The Slayers
Matt K. Miller- best known as "Tenchi" in Tenchi Muyo, and for roles in three Miyazaki classics, Kiki¹s Delivery Service, Castle in the Sky, and Princess Mononoke
Lisa Ortiz- has voiced some of the most beloved characters in anime including Lisa Inverse of The Slayers and mystical Deedlit from Record of Lodoss War
Jessica Calvello- Notable performances include the mainstream hit Pokemon, as well as Labyrinth of Flames, Boogie Pop Phantom, Cutey Honey and more.
Mandy Bonhomme- fans are passionate about her characterizations in Revolutionary Girl Utena- The Movie, Boogiepop Phantom, Knights of Ramune, Ayane¹s High Kick and the ever-popular The Slayers Next
Asia Carrera and Kobe Tai, voice actresses for Shusaku and Koihime, who also served as the Opening Night Guests of Honor for the Midnight Anime Concourse.
And what film festival is complete without screenings? Over the weekend, fans attended over 250 hours of screenings, many of which were sold out, including the highly anticipated North American premiere of the full-length anime feature, Metropolis. Not only did the audience at BAAF see the critically acclaimed film before its formal release by Tri-Star Pictures, but director Rintaro and animation producer Masao Maruyama made a rare trip to America to New York City and personally introduced the U.S. premiere of Metropolis at the Directors Guild of America (DGA) Theater on Friday evening.
Other international guests of honor also made the trip to New York for BAAF. They included Toshio Maeda, the creator of the groundbreaking Urotsukidoji saga and legendary anime director Yuji Moriyama, creator of such anime classics as Macross and Geobreeders. Also in attendance was Rusher Ikeda, producer of such favorites as Demon Beast Invasion, La Blue Girl, Revenge of the Demon Beast, Lady Blue and Twin Angels. Rounding out BAAF¹s impressive Guest of Honor list was Kunihiko Ikuhara, the visual genius behind the Sailor Moon the series and Sailor Moon R the Movie as well as the Revolutionary Girl Utena series and movie. He presented the World Premiere of the English language version of Revolutionary Girl Utena: The Movie, to a standing room only audience. Emmy-nominated animator and comic book creator Tim Eldred represented the American side of the Anime Manga Culture creative experience, hosting the Anime DVD Shootout, as well as presenting The Complete Votoms panel.
The Big Apple Anime Fest offered up exciting activities for anime enthusiasts beyond screenings and signings. A dealer room at the Park Central New York Hotel included over forty dealer booths that held special events and offered Anime fans thousands of bargain prices on anime videos, DVDs, comics, posters and more. The Cosplay on Broadway contest on Saturday night attracted throngs of anime fans who spilled out into the street outside the DGA Theater hoping to catch a glimpse of the outrageous outfits donned by enthusiasts impersonating their favorite anime characters. Winners walked away with prizes ranging from anime movie packages to DVD players.
While the fans now rest up after a fun-filled, whirlwind weekend of anime adventure, Big Apple Anime Fest organizers are already gearing up to bring an even bigger and better BAAF 2002 to New York City on Labor Day Weekend, 2002, in association with the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA).

The TV animation of G-Gundam was produced by Sunrise, running in Japan in 1994, composing the season of Gundam just prior to Shin Kido Senki Gundam Wing in 1995. Plot-wise G-Gundam has been refered to as the "Dragon Ball" of Gundam due to the fact that the story, occuring in FC 95, revolves around a battle tournament where the "13th Gundam Fight" has began, the ring is the planet Earth. From the newsgrouip post by Sany:
Anyway, 114 days after its initial release in Japan "Sen to Chihiro no
Kamikakushi" has overtaken "Titanic"´s income, grossing about 26,2
billion Yen (Titanic was "only" able to gross 26 billion) as of
November 11th. In consequence of this success Buena Vista
International have announced that they will premier the movie in Hong
Kong and Singapore on December 27th, in Taiwan and France on January
16th. To promote his work Hayao Miyazaki will reportedly visit France
during the "Nouvelles images du Japon" at the "Forum des images" held
between December 15th and 23th in Paris.
American fans should be pleased to know that Ghibli´s International Sales Bureau Chief Stephen Alpert has indicated at the press conference, which took place yesterday in the Tokyo Metropolitan Hotel, that the negotiation for an US release is now up and running.
Also, now phone users in Japan can learn English by viewing original Mobile Suit Gundam images with English Subtitling. Ezweb subscribers can access the service for 200 Yen a month.
TransTV, a new local TV station, is expected to broadcast anime shows. Among the titles rumoured are Neon Genesis EVANGELION and LOVE HINA. TransTV will be the first TV station in Indonesia with total digital operations, broadcasting shows without the need of videotapes. Rumours also stated that this new TV station is funded by Japanese entertainment companies.
couple of updates. Manga Entertainment have sent a newsletter to those who subscribed. It appears that X the Movie will be released on DVD in January 2002, while the long-awaited Akira will be release on DVD around the Easter period. Ryoga Hibiki
What came to light by the demonstration was that the portable receivers were a few seconds behind in replaying the broadcasting when compared to set-top boxes. With regard to this delay, a question was posed at the venue asking what the companies will do when trying to broadcast a clock signal live. The demonstrator said it would be more realistic to use the clock function incorporated in portable devices.
Brimming with confidence, a TBS representative said, "Without doubt, we were able to show that the stumbling block for broadcasting has been cleared. The next comes the issue of launching and setting the business into full gear by boosting the incentive of the makers for further development."
What drew attention of the visitors at the booths other than Toshiba's MPEG4 real-time encoder was a prototype receiver for mobile phones developed by Mitsubishi Electric. Mitsubishi Electric set a link to the newly developed receiver and a mobile phone to demonstrate how images transmitted via Tokyo Tower could actually be displayed. In addition to displaying the images, the company went even further to demonstrate a quiz game that interacts with broadcasting. Users, when making mistakes in the quiz game would then obtain detailed explanation of the quiz by using i-mode phones.
Miniaturization of both receivers and antennas as well as improvement of battery longevity were pointed out as remaining tasks for commercialization.

OK folks....here's the deal:
There's a DNS error running through the system right now which redirects any requests meant for AniPike.com to the American Cancer Society web site. Repeat: It's an DNS error. They did not steal the AniPike.com domain.
Both the people at AniPike.com and the American Cancer Society are looking into this odd problem. In the meanwhile the European Mirror is still open at:
For those of you who called up the American Cancer Society and 'expressed' yourselves in a non flattering manner...perhaps you could consider making a donation to their cause.
(Yes, there were enough calls for this large organization to take notice. They contacted me with an example of the messages they were receiving....Aiya ^^;;;;;)
Thanks again for your continued support and patience in this continuing matter. Hopefully it will all be resolved soon.

The first project is the anime-adaptation of "Howl´s Moving Castle" (Hauru to ugoku shiro), a novel by British fantasy author Diana Wynne Jones. Ok, that´s not the news, you might argue :). Due out in Japan´s theaters in July 2002 the 100 min long movie will be supervised by Miyazaki but directed by Mamoru Hosoda, last spotted at Toei working on the "Digimon" movie.
The second movie has to be "Baron". Set in the same universe of "Whisper of the Heart" it will be directed by Hiroyuki Morita, who used to work as animator and animation checker at Ghibli.
To complete the trio "Ghibli Episode 2" enters. If you ask me it´s presumably the sequel to the short movie "Ghiblies" from 2002 which shows the studio and its staff as comic characters (check Nausicaa.net for more details). Though the director of the first part was unknown, "Ghibli Ep 2" will reportedly be directed by Yoshiyuki Momose, currently CG director at Ghibli.
