11-24-01---- New Releases In America - Ronin Warriors Reallocated

FROM PIONEER/BANDAI: Pioneer recently announced the release of the first Cardcaptors movie! It's slated for March of 2002. Bandai's Gundam 0080 Vol. 2 has been moved again to April 23; it was originally scheduled for March 15th. A couple of surprises mentioned that they're acquiring Saber Marionette J-X and the long-awaited video release of "Ronin Warriors."

MY TAKE ON RONIN WARRIORS:
It's been almost 9 years since Ronin Warriors aired on syndicated TV. If you're not recognized about the series, its the story of 5 young warriors destined to save the world from the evil hordes of the Dynasty. Join Ryo, Sage, Cye, Kento and Rowen (man, I can't believe I still remember these names!!) as they battle the evil Talpa and the Dynasty! Now the series has come to you for the first time ever on DVD in March/April 2002!!!

FROM FUNimation:
FUNimation announced its release of Blue Gender's 2nd volume on Januray 15th. Also mentioned, the 5th movie entitled COOLER'S REVENGE (the first of 2 Cooler movies) will be released on the 22nd. The second Cooler movie is slated now in October. And the first of 2 the 4 Imperfect Cell titles, ENCOUNTER and DISCOVERY, are coming to DVD on the January 29. Also mentioned the long-awaited Garlic Jr. saga is out on DVD on the 8th. This saga has been long delayed. They also want to push it on with the Majin Buu titles, THE HATCHING and ATONEMENT on the 29th to DVD.

11-24-01---- New Site Encourages Anime Art

From the announcement:

Gloves & Holly Art Agency -- http://jessebox.com We are a bran-new web site that is dedicated to anime artists. We are non profit and want people to draw anime! So whip out your pencils and doodle all over your paper. Wait, that sounded really gorse. Now that I'm really embarrassed, let's move on.

Each month we have a contest for prizes! First let's check out the contest then schmooze on down to the REALLY COOL PRIZES WE ARE GIVING AWAY!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----
This months contest (Must submit by 10/31/01) jessebox.com/art/general.php Holoween party in a weird place.

Rules: Your entry must have something to do with Holoween. May be original characters or characters from existing manga or anime. You may use what ever medium you feel like.

There is no limit to the number of entries. Entries must be scanned and emailed in JPG, GIF or SWF (flash) formats. No copying! If you are caught copying existing artwork your piece will be not be an eligible submission.

Submission: Send attached files to: gloves_holly@pluginbox.net Include the artist's name, and web site if you have one. Your work will be reviewed and posted under "Entries" usually within a week. Entries will be judged by you! From November 1st to 15th voting will be open. Entries must be received by: October 31, 2001

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----
Available prizes in the Prize Vault jessebox.com/art/prize_vault.php PRIZES!!!
This is what it's all about folks! The prizes! We'll not for me it's not. I don't get to have any of the prizes. ~_~ But what this means is that you get one better chance to get PRIZES!!! What you need to envision is Happosai from Ranma 1/2. Instead of him going crazy about braziers, you're going crazy about PRIZES!!! Below you will find some of the prizes you can pick form once you win, because it's going to be you* who wins!!!

*Warning May not be you.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----
Reminder to vote jessebox.com/art/general_entries.php Even more than entering in the contest to get PRIZES!!! you need to vote! How can anyone win if you don't view the entries and vote for your favorite! You only get one vote so pick wisely!

I just remembered something... You can't vote!!! It's not because you aren't old enough. It's because we don't have a previous month's contest to vote on! This means that you can vote on November 1st for October's contest but that's not for a heck-a long time. Just something to keep in the back of your mellon.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----

Last months winner Don't forget to check the previous winners. These are the people you have to train night and day to become better than them. You have to train like Goku did on his way to Namak or like the sailor scouts did! Oh wait... I don't think the sailor scouts did much training for any battle. So not like the sailor scouts. Probably more Tenchi. Sorry I'm naming these old school anime, nothing new is coming into mind.

There is only one problem with this. Our site is tooooo new!!! WE HAVE NO PREVIOUS MONTHS!!! So this means that you are going to have to be disciplined and train without knowing your rivals abilities and special attacks. Maybe I should lay off the competition bit. I mean art isn't meant to be a competition. It's meant to look nice and increase a person's view on the world. To share creative ideas... yea. I like that... Everyone will get prizes. Oh crap! we don't have that many prizes ~_~ I'm sorry it will have to stay a competition. We aren't made of money you know. A lot of these prizes are coming out of our own pockets.

Even if you aren't a great artists and don't think you will win... JOIN THE CLUB!!! This contest is meant to increase your skills by seeing how other people did and compare their ideas with the one you did. See what you will do different next time. This is the fastest way to learn art without being instructed by an art professor. Well it could be the fastest way, I don't know. It works for me really well. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----

Upcoming Events Finally the events! And here they are in order by date: 1. ... 2. ... Okay so we don't have anything "special" planned just yet, but! I'm sure something cool will happen and you'll want to know about it. So I would come back to the site as often as possible! Well maybe just once a week is okay. ^_^

Actually the only scheduled events we have is the contest deadline on 10/31/01 and our white board is scheduled for 9:00PM-10:00PM Pacific time every day. Also look forward to a few new tutorials. Most if not all will be simple Photoshop tricks to help people out.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----

What's new OUR SITE, THAT'S WHAT!! Yes our site has only been running since 9/24/01 that's less than 2 weeks. And those first 2 weeks... FEWWWW! Let's just say it was a rocky 2 weeks and we are getting our act together finally.

We have an online community white board where you and your friends can get together, do some chatting and some drawing at the same time. I highly recommend it. You can then save your drawings for other people to view or you can quickly clear the board before anyone sees that embarrassing picture you only halfway finished. Don't worry every artists has done bad pictures. We are having daily scheduled meetings at 9:00 PM so that you have at least one other person to chat and draw with.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----
Something extra! After all that stuff you want to have something Extra!!!? I'll give you something extra right in the Jaw.. I mean I'll give you something like a job! Speaking of jobs, we have small jobs that you can apply for. We can't pay you, nor will we ever. It's just for fun, just like the rest of this site. You can find these under the "Profiles" section of our site.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----
Something Special! animeworks.net Gloves & Holly Art Agency has a new partner!!! AnimeWorks.net! www.animeworks.net They are adding DVDs to the Prize Vault. AnimeWorks.net sells everything anime and they sell it for less than most other places. You might start seeing a lot of AnimeWorks.net links around the site soon. This is because we truly believe that this is a great company to buy DVDs, Manga, Wall Scrolls and lots more from. All we ask is that if you are looking for something anime, stop by AnimeWorks.net first. It will probably be your only stop. ^_^ Be thankful we aren't charging for art entries. Well, we would never do that but how else are we going to give away prizes?

11-24-01---- Ichiro MLB MVP

For the first time in major league history, a Japanese player, Seattle Mariners right fielder Ichiro Suzuki, was named the Most Valuable Player in the American League on Tuesday. Suzuki, 28, who also won the AL Rookie of the Year award, narrowly beat out last year's MVP, Oakland Athletics first baseman Jason Giambi, 289 points to 281 in a vote by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Suzuki is the first player since Fred Lynn of the Boston Red Sox in 1975 to win both titles in the same season. ''I didn't expect that I would be the one to win,'' Suzuki said. ''I am very pleased and honored to be among good players,'' he added. Suzuki, who joined the Mariners from Japan's Orix BlueWave after winning seven straight Pacific League batting crowns and three MVPs, led the majors in batting (.350) and stolen bases (56) and whose 242 hits were the most by a player in 71 years. When asked to compare the AL MVP award with the MVP awards he won in Japan, Suzuki said, ''There is no way I can compare the MVPs in those two countries. ''Winning (this) MVP is different; things are different on the field,'' he said. Suzuki, who received the news while in Seattle, said he does not plan to have a big party but will have a ''very private celebration'' with his wife and friends.

Like Skull and myself, Sam has entered college, and the stress of class and his site SZR have proven too much for him (I know exactly where he's coming from). 11-20-01---- More On Best Animated Feature

From Daniel:

"On Dec. 11, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences is expected to approve adding a Best Picture Oscar for Animated Film to the roster of awards it will give out next Mar. 24. [Nominations will be announced on Feb. 12.]...In 2002, the Academy may well decide against giving the award, since it takes up to five years to make an animated film and some major producers -- think Pixar, for one -- don't have a release planned for next year. That shortage makes this year's nominations and awards all the more valuable, just as it makes the battle all the more fierce -- and entertaining."

More actual details on the actual history of animated films-and the awards they have been considered for-are available at this Yahoo biz link.

11-20-01---- Akacon News

Some new release info has come to light from this past weekend's Akacon, Anime On DVD has posted the following:

Two ex-Streamline titles have found a new home, Crying Freeman and Doomed Megalopolis, and Medabots finds its home video home, but it will most likely be another straight from TV release, dub-only. :P In other news, the Bebop movie may be acquired, and not by Bandai, which IMO is not a good thing. Waiting for more official word."

BURBANK, Calif., Nov. 15 -- Warner Bros. The two companies have entered into an agreement under which they will develop and launch co-branded merchandise featuring the popular characters Tweety and Hello Kitty. The agreement, which calls for merchandise to be sold exclusively at Sanrio locations throughout Japan and most of Asia, is the first time industry-leading companies have partnered to develop and market a co-brand featuring their popular characters.

Merchandise featuring the new co-brand will launch in March 2002 in Japan. Following this initial launch, the co-branded venture will be extended throughout most of Asia -- to Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. "Friendship and cross cultural exchange are fitting themes for this new relationship between Tweety and Hello Kitty and we look forward to working closely with Sanrio to build a long-lasting and successful relationship."

Designed around the theme of friendship and international goodwill, the merchandise will initially comprise of at least 200 Tweety and Hello Kitty co-branded products, as well as Tweety-as-designed-by-Sanrio exclusive product. Appealing to a broad spectrum of young women and girls aged between 16-30 -- a key market in Japan -- the co-branded collection of merchandise will range from stationery items, fashion and home accessories, personal care items, plush, gifts and novelties, electronics, publishing, food and beverages and confectionery. The Tweety-exclusive product will include stationery, paper goods, mobile phone accessories and towels.

"Tweety and Hello Kitty are adored by fans of all ages around the world. Warner Bros. Consumer Products is pleased to be working with Sanrio, Japan's leader in character licensing, to partner the world's most loved cunning canary with the world's most fashionable feline," said Mark Matheny, Executive Vice President, International Licensing for Warner Bros. Consumer Products. "Both characters appeal to a similar audience -- young women of today -- and this partnership allows us to bring them together through creative, fashion-forward merchandise with a cross-cultural theme."

The March 2002 launch of the merchandise will be supported by a comprehensive marketing campaign including print advertising, POP displays, standees, store fronts and window displays, in-store designs and promotions, shelf tops, mobiles and banners, retail promotions, product sales brochures, special gift cards and prize drawings, Tweety and Hello Kitty public appearances at local events and tours.

Kunihiko Tsuji, Executive Vice President, Sanrio Co., Ltd., commented, "Sanrio is proud to be breaking new ground with Warner Bros. Consumer Products in this unprecedented collaboration of two of the world's most beloved characters, Hello Kitty and Tweety. Metropolis [Japan, 2000. 90 mins. Japanese, subtitled] - Fri Nov 23, 7pm
Based on the classic manga by Osamu Tezuka, Metropolis is brought to the screen by two of the most respected figures in Japanese animation today - Katsuhiro Otomo and Rintaro.

More than fifty years on, Tezuka's vision confirms him as a prophet. The precautionary tale is spectacularly rendered, combining the best of Japanese cel animation with the latest in digital technology.

Undeterred, Branic hunts him down. He knows that he must harness Amon's endless powers if he is to conquer all. Amon and Branic stand face to face - Amon will defend the people of the wind and peace for all. Beautifully drawn animation; based on cult author C.W. Nicol's novel.

11-17-01---- Docomo To Limit E-Mail New Year's Greetings

According to the Yomiuri:

NTT DoCoMo Inc. will restrict the transmission and reception of e-mail on Jan. 1 to prevent the system from crashing after the massive number of New Year greetings expected to be transmitted to and from its Internet-capable i-mode mobile phones, company officials said Friday. It will be the first time for a mobile phone operator to impose a restriction only on e-mail communications. The restriction on e-mail communication will last several hours, starting from a couple of minutes before 12 a.m. on New Year's Day and lasting until dawn. The operator's i-mode centers will accept outgoing e-mail sent from i-mode-capable mobile phones one out of every eight times. Users whose messages are refused will receive a message saying, "please wait." NTT DoCoMo will also limit the amount of incoming e-mail sent from non-i-mode devices such as personal computers and other types of mobile phones to DoCoMo phones. Even when the centers receive incoming messages, they will reduce the transmission speed so the company's communication facilities do not become excessively overloaded or malfunction. NTT DoCoMo made similar restrictions on Jan. 1 this year and last year. On both occasions, the restriction was on both e-mail and telephone calls. However, as the number of i-mode subscribers recently reached about 29 million recently--double the number a year ago--NTT DoCoMo expects New Year's e-mail greetings to rapidly increase this time. On Jan. 1 next year, the company will restrict telephone conversations for a shorter period compared with previous years, but will continue to restrict e-mail for several hours. The Telecommunications Business Law stipulates that a telecommunications operator can halt service if it is necessary to protect its equipment, so NTT DoCoMo's planned restriction faces no legal problems. Through monthly statements and newspaper advertisements, the company plans to ask its users to regulate their sending of New Year's e-mail greetings through i-mode.
