"In the world of global music, it's hard to make a bigger splash than the arrival of the Yoshida Brothers." - The Globalist Magazine "The framework of the Yoshida Brothers' art may be traditional, but its essence and spirit are altogether revolutionary." - World Music Central The Yoshida Brothers’ star continues to rise with their highly anticipated album, Yoshida Brothers II. Mixing traditional Japanese music with Western influences, their brash, signature sound has elevated them to rock star status in their native Japan. The Brothers play the age-old Tsugaru-shamisen—an instrument akin to a rustic three-stringed banjo—with the fervor of Jimi Hendrix, while incorporating jazz-like improvisation, pop-rock sensibilities, and disparate global music idioms into their virtuoso shamisen mastery. The framework of the Yoshida Brothers’ art may be traditional, but its essence and spirit are revolutionary!

Fumio - Best of Fumio
The Best of Fumio is a collection of music from the groundbreaking Japanese composer Fumio Miyashita. Fumio's illustrious career spans over three decades, during which time he has released over 80 albums in Japan alone, and millions worldwide. Fumio's healing music was created in the riches of nature in the Iizuna highlands of rural Japan. It is here that Fumio sought to understand the principles of harmony found in Oriental philosophy and Medical Science, which he then applied to his unique style of therapeutic music. Our present world, referred to as a "left-brain society", puts great emphasis on logical, information processing -- versus creativity and imagination, which are ruled by the right hemisphere of the brain. Certain music has been known to bridge the gap between the two hemispheres by releasing blockages to the right-brain, and thus giving the left brain a rest by balancing the functions of both with sound vibrations. More than entertainment, this collection will last into personal moments of healing to help minimize stress and serve the mind, body and spirit.
Susan Mazer and Dallas Smith - The Circle of Life
Collaborating since 1984, Susan Mazer and Dallas Smith create some of the finest contemporary instrumental music available. Heard on National Public Radio, The Discovery Channel, PBS' NOVA television series, and other radio stations around the country, their compositions merge the aesthetics of jazz, classical, and world music into an experience that feeds both the intellect and spirit. Circle of Life is an especially unique recording that extends beyond the boundaries of genre, offers richness in melody, rhythm and sonority - plus hours of musical enjoyment!
Akasau - Akasau
Akasau is an avant-garde musical hybrid featuring Kirilola, one of the founding members of the groundbreaking Japanese pop group, Ex-Girls. This disc finds Kirilola at her creative, spiritual best and highlights the beauty and power of the human voice. Minimal instrumentation allows Kirilola’s haunting vocals to shine through Zen-like sonic textures and traditional Japanese sounds, while a healing array of vibratory frequencies work to stimulate each of the chakras.
Truly a cutting edge album, Akasau fascinates and soothes, while taking the listener on a spiritual journey transcending space and time. The foundation of this musical journey is based upon Reiki meditation and spiritual healing. Seven of the eight tracks are directed towards energy for specific problems, leaving the eighth track a song for the entire body.

About the Exhibit Shot at Japanese animation conventions around the US and Canada in 2003 and 2004, “Starring As…” is a series of photographic portraits of “cosplay” (costume play) fans, the theatrical and flamboyant branch on the family tree of “otaku” (extremely devoted anime fans), the ones who design, construct and self-model their homemade costumes and props in homage to their favorite anime, comic, video game and Japanese rock band characters.
Artist Statement As a photographer, “What’s wrong with this picture?” is a question I am forever asking myself as I compose through the viewfinder or struggle with creative choices in trying to make a good print. Given the strong emphasis on costume verisimilitude, and that the recognition and celebration of an especially faithful character costume is indubitably a triumphant moment (I’ve seen for myself how shouts of “Great Zelgadis!” or “Awesome Chii!” across the convention center lobby can elicit a grateful smile and help validate those long hours put into costume design), it’s possible that some anime purists may well gaze at my somewhat less than photorealistic portraits and ask, “What’s wrong with this picture?” The answer is: “Nothing. It’s merely my art added to your art, my vision merely a variation on a theme of the wearable art of the otaku.”

ORIGIN OF BLACK SALT
Samuel was about 18 years old and one day after an intensive training session, Master Yu sat Samuel down and told him a story. He explained when he was 10 years old as a young monk at the temple, he and his master was in the village picking up some herbs. Master Chan was telling young Yu that it was forbidden and he should never teach his Shaolin training to anyone outside the Chinese Klan. As Master Chan continued to explain why, to the left of them, they saw a couple of merchants packing fresh fish in a lot of salt. Curiously, young Yu asked his master, “Why are the men packing the fish in all that salt?” Master Chan told young Yu that salt is a very powerful mineral from the ground and is used to preserve and cure/heal certain things.
Samuel now that I am an old man with great wisdom and I have walked many journeys through life, I now disagree with my Master Chan, about the curse of Shaolin. A man should be judged in life by the pureness of his heart and his deeds and not by his origin or what Klan he was born into. Samuel you have trained very hard and have been an honorable man and in my eyes, you are my cure and maybe these Shaolin teachings can be a start in changing man’s ignorance. Young Samuel as of today you will be known as “Black Salt
Several days later, Ibuki heard a meowing sound coming from a cardboard box left outside his door. He opened the box but was shocked to see a beautiful naked cat girl curled up inside, purring. The next thing I know, my apartment is filled to the brim with gorgeous cat girls, all eager to do whatever they can for me. I'm the luckiest guy in the world -- thank you, Cat God!

FEATURE: PIONEERS OF JAPANESE ANIMATION, PART 2
The second instalment of our odyssey into the early days of Japanese animation.
Director Yoshitaka Fujimoto (Nuku Nuku Dash, Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch), Production I.G. (Ghost in the Shell, Blue Seed, FLCL) and Producers Tetsuo Gensho (Sakura Wars, Orphen, You’re Under Arrest) and Hiroshi Kato (Vampire Hunter D) have teamed up to create this twisted tale of a popular toy that turns out to be much more than it seems. Deriving its name from the celebrated wholesale electronics district of Tokyo, and simultaneously parodying both the Power Rangers and Pokemon merchandizing crazes with the occasional delirious side-trip into Sailor Moon-land, Cyberteam packs an awesome arsenal of animated in-jokes that’s as overstuffed as its unsuspecting heroines amply filled out costumes. Don’t miss the mayhem as a handful of teenage girls accidentally unleash the power of the PataPis while the most demented crew of animators since Excel Saga take liberal potshots at everything under the Rising Sun in Cyberteam in Akihabara: Cyberteam Genesis!
Like all girls, Hibari Hanakoganei covets the latest fashion in mechanical pets – a PataPi to call her own! But when a strange White Prince provides one, an equally mysterious Black Prince plots to steal the prized pet. It’s PataPi Densuke to the rescue, however, transforming into a powerful Diva with astonishing battle agility and amazingly bears a striking resemblance to Hibari herself! Together with the Cyber Team, the Black Prince will certainly get a run for his money! “…a different type of genre fusion, it’s like Sailormoon meets Bubblegum Crisis!” said Animetric.com. Cyberteam in Akihabara: Cyber Genesis (SRP $29.98) is a DVD-only release with 5 complete episodes presented in English 5.1 and Japanese 2.0 with English subtitles. Extras include clean opening and closing animations, production sketches and ADV previews.
In September of 1974, a young artist named Yuko Shimizu presented a drawing of a cat to her boss, Sanrio founder Shintaro Tsuji. On November 1st of that year, Hello Kitty® was introduced to the world. Preferring catnaps to catnip, this was a kitty that had many of Shimizu's own personality traits like baking cookies and playing the piano. In 1983, Hello Kitty became the US children's ambassador for UNICEF, a position she still holds today. Now, thirty years after her first appearance, Hello Kitty has stretched across the globe and has become one of the most recognized images in countless countries around the world.
Born on November 1st, Kitty White (nicknamed 'Hello Kitty') lives just outside London with her Mama and Papa, George and Mary White. Kitty has a twin sister named Mimmy, and they are in the third grade. Their mama put a red bow over Kitty's left ear and a yellow bow over Mimmy's right ear when she brought them home from the hospital so she could tell them apart. Kitty and Mimmy's grandparents (Anthony and Margaret White) live nearby, so they get to visit them a lot.
Even though Kitty is small - about the height of five shiny apples, and weighing the same as three shiny apples - she has a very big heart. Kitty and Mimmy have many friends such as Kathy the rabbit, Fifi the lamb, Jody the dog, Joey the mouse, Tracy the raccoon, Lorry the squirrel and Moley the mole. In fact, Hello Kitty always says "You can never have too many friends!" Happy Birthday, Hello Kitty®!
