Well many of you may have noticed the extremely poor quality of the UK DBZ episodes lately. The sound is poor. The picture is poor. Quite simply it's a bit hard to watch. Here is what CN has been screening thoughout the bad quality episodes:
"We apologise for the poor picture and sound quality on the programme. Please do not adjust your set"
Well I don't know what's going on at CN, but hopefully, it'll be fixed soon."

The first Lone Wolf and Cub collection, for example, has over 42,000 copies in print and is in its fifth printing. The second and third volumes are both on their third printings, and books two through four each have about 35,000 copies in print. The remaining collections (5-12) each have about 30,000 copies in print.
The first Akira collection is on its third printing, and like the first Lone Wolf, has about 42,000 copies in print. The second has about the same number of copies in print, and collections three and four each have around 30,000 copies in print.
However, the popularity of these series has yet to break into the mainstream market. About 90% of the sales of Lone Wolf and Cub come from comic stores, and about 80% of the sales of Akira are from that channel.

But still other Americans are refusing to change their plans. That includes the organizers of the Big Apple Anime Fest, who have decided to heed New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani's calls to "go about our normal way of life."
The celebration of Japanese animation, scheduled the weekend before Halloween, is expected to draw 2,500 teens, college students and others. Many will dress as their favorite Japanese cartoon characters -like Dragon Ball Z and "revolutionary girl" Utena -for a costume parade along Broadway.
ADV has also recapped it's recent announcements, view them at the above main link.
This is from AICN. And yes, AICN is still lagged.
Japan: 1)"Due to the "Final Fantasy" debacle, the Square film production studios at Honolulu is shutting down for good and the company has decided to halt all productions. One of the biggest films affected by this decision was the "Astro Boy" film based on the classic anime. The film was a joint production between Square and Sony but it looks like it might never see the light of day.
2)"I just saw the film "Dan-Ball House Girl", directed by Masako Matsuura. It stars supermodel Ryoko Yonekura as a girl who loses everything and becomes the most beautiful homeless person in the world. Despite good acting by Ryoko, the film's story just doesn't make sense and comes across as an utter bore. It has already opened in Tokyo, with openings in the rest of Japan following shortly.
3)"A much better film from the same director is "Platonic Sex", based on a best selling novel by former porn-queen Ai Iijima. The story recounts Iijima's experiences as a high school student who worked as a prostitute on the side and eventually became one of Japanese porn's biggest stars. Western audiences might be quite shocked at some of the scenes depicted in the film, but the drama and acting works for most of the time making this a memorable viewing experience. It will open in Japan on October 20th.
4)"I saw another disappointing film, this one being the feature film debut of TV director Isamu Nakae. Titled, Reisei To Jyonetu No Aida - Calmi Cuori Appassionati", this is a hopeless love story set in Italy. Lead stars Yutaka Takenouchi and HK icon Kelly Chen are just about average but the same old storyline doesn't find anything to do with them. A big waste of time, the film is set to open in Japan this November.
5)"A film based on the life of famous novelist Osamu Dazai, is in production now from Museum pictures. Titled "Pikaresuku - the Story of Osamu Dazai", it will be directed by Hidehiro Ito and will star rock star Kouich Kawamura (of the group Luna Sea) as Dazai. Actors Shiro Sano and Ren Osugi will round out the supporting cast. The film will be released in Japan sometime next spring."

The beautiful Belldandy is the star of Oh My Goddess!, one of the most popular anime and manga series of all time. Now, she and her sisters are back as an all-new assortment of action figures, imported from Japan and available from Diamond.
Created by manga legend Kosuke Fujishima, Oh My Goddess! is the story of the hapless Morisato, who once misdialed his favorite take-out joint and instead wound up with the lifelong services of the goddess Belldandy... and the lifelong annoyance of her two sisters. A fan-favorite both in Japan (where the series is known as Ah! My Goddess) and the U.S. (thanks in part to the ongoing Dark Horse comic book), Oh My Goddess! continues to grab fans who won't want to miss out on these all-new offerings!
Scheduled to ship in February 2002, the Oh My Goddess! Series 2 Action Figure Assortment presents the first-ever "battle-suit" versions of the goddesses themselves, Belldandy, Urd, and Skuld. Each masterfully sculpted figure stands approximately 6" high, features a fluorescent orange base, and ships on original blister card packaging. As a bonus, each one also comes with one piece of a three-part Banpei-kun (the security robot built by Skuld), which can be assembled into a fourth figure.

Koto, Inc. has named Diamond Comic Distributors as the exclusive North American distributor of its entire line of collectible products based on the best-selling video game, Final Fantasy X. Timed with the North American release of the game in early 2002, this distribution agreement gives Diamond the ability to offer retailers a wide array of collectibles based on the popular property ? including action figures, lunch boxes, plushes, posters, vinyl statues, silver jewelry, T-shirts, and wall scrolls.
Square Entertainment Arts' Final Fantasy has become one of the most popular video game franchises ever, selling over 31 million copies worldwide. Its newest incarnation, Final Fantasy X, is already a multimillion seller in Japan (the first game for the PlayStation 2 to achieve this honor), and is scheduled for release in North America in the first quarter of 2002 ? with more than 500,000 copies already preordered by consumers! The game's forthcoming release will be accompanied by a massive press tour, during which Koto. Inc.'s licensed Final Fantasy X items will also be promoted. To that end, these fan-favorite products from Koto, Inc. should share in the game?s extraordinary sales success.
"As the exclusive North American distributor of these must-have items," explained Diamond Import Toys Brand Manager Frank Supiot, "Diamond can offer its customers the entire complement of Koto's Final Fantasy X products at affordable prices, and with a high availability of stock. And with Final Fantasy X a sold-out success in Japan [70% of the initial shipment of 2.14 million units sold out in the first 24 hours] and American fans impatiently waiting for its Stateside release early next year, this terrific sales opportunity could not have come at a better time!"
"Koto, Inc. is very excited to be working with Diamond in bringing our profitable Final Fantasy X products to the North American collectibles market," said Koto, Inc. Vice President of Business Development Yumi Hoashi. "Koto, Inc. and Diamond are both recognized as the leaders in their respective fields, so working together is a natural fit."
For almost two decades, Baltimore, MD-based Diamond Comic Distributors has continued to evolve into the world's largest distributor of English-language comic books and related merchandise, serving over 4,000 customers from distribution centers across the U.S. and in the U.K. As it has expanded over the years, so has the number of product lines it distributes weekly to its customers. With toys alone, Diamond has successfully built a more than $25 million a year business.
Koto, Inc. was initially established in March 2000 to distribute parent company Kotobukiya's products in the U.S. and Europe. In the aftermath of the success of its best-selling Final Fantasy VIII Guardian Force collectibles line, Koto, Inc. has carved out an identity of its own by manufacturing high-quality collectibles, and offering its toy manufacturing services to a number of U.S. companies, including Dark Horse Comics, N2Toys, and D-Boy, Inc.
The phone rings, which means there are only seconds to prepare. Hunt around for the most flattering light, straighten glasses, attempt rakish smile, turn least bad side towards the camera. Ready at last, this image-conscious reporter presses the "accept call" button to begin his first conversation on a third-generation mobile phone.
It is from an attractive young Japanese woman, whose perfectly made-up features suddenly fill the 2.2-inch screen. She smiles, blinks and her bright red lips move in synch as she asks: "Well, what do you think?"
There is only one possible answer. "Beautiful."
We are talking, of course, about the image quality offered by the latest leap in mobile telecommunications technology: Foma, or Freedom of Mobile Multimedia Access, Japan's pioneering third-generation mobile phone service.
3G offers fast data transmission speeds far more suited to audio and video streaming than today's 2G systems, such as Wap in Europe and i-mode in Japan. Global telecom giants, such as Vodafone, have invested a staggering £100bn on 3G licenses and research. It is a big bet on the future.
The long-awaited launch of Foma came last week. It was five months behind schedule, applied only to a 20-mile radius in Tokyo and its operator, the Japanese mobile telecom colossus NTT DoCoMo, admits there are still a few technical glitches to be ironed out.
But the new service is still well ahead of most other countries. In Europe, by contrast, second-generation wireless application protocol (Wap) business is still struggling to take off. Lagging furthest behind is America, which is only just beginning to emerge from the first-generation Stone Age. Only South Korea enjoys anything like what is on offer in Tokyo.
The secret of DoCoMo's success has been its ability to build on the phenomenal success of i-mode, easily the world's most popular 2G service with 27.8 million subscribers after just two and a half years in business. And having conquered Japan with i-mode, it now hope to take over the world with Foma.
Over the next three years, DoCoMo plans to spend £17 billion on expanding the service in Japan. The overseas invasion will start in the UK at the end of next year, when the Japanese firm expects to see its system rolled out by Hutchinson 3G, one of DoCoMo's global business partners.
That's right! 2002 is the Right Stuf International's 15th Anniversary! As a special thanks to all of our loyal customers, we've expanded this year's catalog to with a number of great articles on Anime including a special introduction titled "Subliminal Lessons in Japanese History" by none other than Fred Patten!
Then, take a look into the tough world of translation in Matthew Galgani's "Meatballs Vs. Pigtails: Translating Anime and Manga for the US Market". And finally, for our adult fans, we've included a special look into the passionate worlds of adult games in Girl Games Come of Age by freelance writer Yoshi Yukino!
All of these great articles plus our usual pages packed full of cool pictures and cooler information on apparel / books / games / posters / figures / soundtracks / manga / more makes this years new 256 page print catalog the best ever!
Plus, we've worked hard to make this catalog even more parent friendly than last year's! Now, you can find age ratings listed on almost all of our titles right next to the product title - even on graphic novels! And, just like last year's catalog, we've made a special modification so all of the Adult items (those with excessive nudity or graphic violence) have been placed in special sealed section that can be easily ripped out.
If you haven't ordered from us within the last year, or you just want to get a sneak peak at the new catalog, you can check it out online at:

Comic-book painter Alex Ross will oversee a new comic book series for Top Cow based on the cartoon "Battle of the Planets." According to Newsrama, Ross is working directly with Sandy Frank Productions, which holds the U.S. rights to the cartoon series. "Battle" is an English adaptation of the Japanese anime series, "Gatchaman." Alternate English versions of "Gatchaman" also include the cartoons "G-Force" and "Eagle Riders."
"Battle of the Planets" will start as a miniseries and will expand to an ongoing if sales are good. In addition to overseeing the project, Ross will provide cover art.
Okay, maybe this isn't as big as ADV's announcement about Southern Cross and Mospeada, but according to my source at Rhino Home Video, we can expect to get more Battle of the Planets / Gatchaman in coming months:
Lana Berman, a spokeswoman with Rhino Home Video, has confirmed that more Battle of the Planets VHS and DVD volumes will follow the first two due out this month. Volumes 3 and 4 are scheduled for release on Jan. 8, and volumes 5 and 6 are scheduled for release in March. Ms. Berman said that the new DVDs will follow the pattern set by vols. 1 and 2 in that they will contain uncut episodes of Gatchaman, as well as episodes of the alternate English-language version, G-Force, as extras. She added that Rhino plans to release additional volumes as long as they continue to sell.

BUDAPEST (Reuters) - Shoppers may soon see images of advertised products floating in mid-air, a Hungarian-U.S. firm said on Monday at the unveiling of a new projection device. "This innovative new media is based on American hardware and Hungarian software," Csaba Rakosy, managing director of Holomedia, told a news conference. An appliance the size of a vending machine projects still or moving images about 40 cm (16 inches) in size which the human eye perceives as floating in mid-air, offering what developers say is a very effective marketing tool. "Preliminary studies showed that these images achieve a faster and more lasting memory imprint," Holomedia marketing specialist Istvan Patai said. Holomedia, a joint venture of the U.S.'s Provision Entertainment and Hungary's Deepworks, plans to install the terminals in shopping centers and sell airtime rather than the appliances themselves. The two-dimensional color, high-definition images can only be seen at certain angles in front of the projection device, according to a Reuters correspondent who saw a demonstration. The machines can be stand-alone or part of network. "The long-term plan is to have many of these terminals installed and managed by central servers," he said, adding that they planned to have thousands of the terminals installed in a few years, with current marketing efforts focused on Hungary, Britain and Germany.

Local firm bets on 'Spriggan' to strike it big By BRUCE WESTBROOK Copyright 2001 Houston Chronicle
A small Houston firm that began with monster movies is becoming monstrous itself.
AD Vision Inc. is best known for releasing Japanese animation (or "anime") on video in America. Now it has a film poised for what it hopes will be a big theatrical run.
On Friday, ADV is bringing Spriggan, an animated action-adventure film about ancient powers sought by secret organizations, to Houston's Angelika Theater and to other art houses in Dallas, New York and Los Angeles. It has also booked the film in coming weeks in Atlanta and San Francisco.
I got this from AICN Note that the site is experiencing severe loading problems, so it might be tough to access this information right now.
1) "About five minutes into watching "Final Fantasy", the first thing that came into my mind was JAMES CAMERON could use this technology to finally make AVATAR. And when I read this article, I can't help but wonder if this could be the secret movie. Nobody knows what Cameron plans on doing next for a feature film. Maybe he's been making it (entirely CGI) all along?
"Check this out: April 21, 2000 entry. Just Click Here "It states (rumored) that Avatar isn't dead. And Sci Fi Wire states that Square has been working on the secret movie since March 2000."
2)"Here's another little bit of gossip... Hey, I heard from a friendly source that John Woo is considering making a live-action adaption of "Dragonball Z", and that Jason Scott Lee and Jet Li are up for the roles of Goku and Vegeta. I'll see what I can dig up, later dude."

After the surprise announcement yesterday that Sony had purchased a sizable percentage of Square stock, many were left wondering exactly what ramifications the deal would have for both companies. Later in the day, Square and Sony hosted a question and answer session, lovingly translated by Video-Senki, to explain exactly how the stock purchase would affect them.
SCE President Ken Kutagari made it a point to stress that Sony would in no way be pressuring Square to keep its games on Sony systems. "We're not asking Square to make games only for PlayStation and PlayStation 2." Kutagari stated "We're simply asking them to make fun games that everyone can get into."
By coincidence, however, Square just happens to think that the best platform for those games is still Sony's -- at least for the time being. "Our belief has always been to produce games for whatever platform is the most popular," Square President Nao Suzuki said, "and for now, that platform is the PlayStation and PlayStation 2." He did restate that future development for other consoles is always a possibility, but it seems clear that Square intends to target its home development on the PlayStation for the foreseeable future.
Handheld development, however, may be a different matter. Suzuki stated that Square plans "to continue pursuing opportunities to supply games on portable systems like Nintendo's." As before, the possibility of Square developing for the GameBoy Advance may lie in Nintendo's hands. Square has stated in no uncertain terms that it would like to bring its games to the GBA, but Suzuki made it clear that "what happens next depends on the hardware developers."
Suzuki stressed that the cash infusion from Sony would help the company get back to its core business of producing a variety of games, and not just the Final Fantasy franchise. Suzuki was frank about the company's over-reliance on its flagship series: "We risked running the FF franchise into the ground by concentrating everything on it." But the future may hold a more diverse output for Square. "In the next year or two, though, I want to see Square making several million-selling titles per year," Suzuki said. "I want to see Square selling a million of games other than FF."

LOS ANGELES - 10/8/2001 - TOKYOPOP® Manga is building a new formula for success as it utilizes the talents of Space Ghost: Coast to Coast and Action Girl writer Sarah Dyer as well as best-selling Dragonlance writer Richard A.Knaak as re-writers for two new series, Kodocha and Ragnarok - Into the Abyss this January. While keeping true to the original creator's style, the additions of Dyer and Knaak will also open up these series to new readers in ways a literal translation could not.
"Kodocha and Ragnarok - Into the Abyss are both excellent titles that have won over many fans," Director of Marketing Sean Atkins said. "And these gifted writers, Sarah Dyer and Richard Knaak, have the ability to realize the nuances and styles of Miho Obana and Myung Jin Lee in a way that ensures that the creators' work is not lost in the translation."
Dyer, who in addition to working on Space Ghost and creating Action Girl, an anthology of comics by and for women and girls has also written Supergirl, and Superman Adventures (as featured on Cartoon Network! and Kids WB!). She also has previous re-writing experience for Dark Horse Comics where she adapted Italian comics for U.S. publication.
Dyer's flair for witty banter fits in well with the unique characters and storylines of Kodocha. Originally titled Kodoma no Omocha, Kodocha follows the most beloved child actress in Japan, Sana Kurata, a young girl who likes having things her way. So when a bully, Akito Hayama, comes and takes over her classroom in true Machiavellian style, it's only a matter of time before their interactions explode into a full-blown war of wills.
Steeped in Japanese pop cultural jokes and references, the series has already attracted a legion of avid U.S. fans, as is evident in the number of websites devoted to the series and series creator Miho Obana. Dyer is keeping these fans in mind while re-writing the series so as not to lose the crazy charm that won them over to begin with. The first volume of Kodocha will run as a limited edition comic for five issues before switching exclusively to graphic novel format next summer.
Knaak is performing a re-write on TOKYOPOP® Manga's other new series, Ragnarok - Into the Abyss. Knaak's talent for epic story telling, with which he has successfully adapted the role-playing game worlds of Dragonlance, Diablo and Warcraft into successful fantasy novel series, brings a larger-than-life appeal to Myung Jin Lee's sword and sorcery manga series.
In the story, Fenris Fenrir the Wolf God of Norse Mythology has been reborn. She seeks the reincarnation of the murdered god, Balder, who will play a crucial role in Ragnarok - the end of the world. At the heart of her search is Chaos, a warrior who holds the sacred sword Tyrfing and who has no memory of his past. Over the course of their quest, they become embroiled in a battle with the goddess Freya while an ensemble cast of characters teams together to change the world forever.
Knaak will co-write the first volume of the series with TOKYOPOP® Senior Editor Jake Forbes before helming the re-writing chores solo in volume two. The first volume will run as a limited edition comic for four issues before switching exclusively to graphic novel format next summer.
Starting Friday, October 12th, Spriggan will be playing at the Rancho Niguel Cinema 8 in Laguna Niguel, California.

Featuring new and original characters, quality 3D graphics and an epic storyline based on the popular "mahou shoujo" or magical girl genre of Japanese animation, or anime, LadyStar(tm) promises to provide adventure game fans with many hours of enjoyable and unique gameplay.
Ladystar(tm) tells the story of Jessica Hoshi, a friendly, optimistic and slightly scatter-brained 14-year old girl who is just starting high school. She immediately makes many new friends after joining the school band, but also notices strange and mysterious events beginning to take place around her home and school.
As the game progresses, Jessica and her friends discover hidden treasures and fantastic magical powers. Eventually the seven girls become powerful warriors who must travel to an enchanted realm where they will battle powerful enemies as they try to solve the ancient legend of the LadyStar.
The new iStory(tm) game engine features an easy point-and-click interface, an inventory system, and allows games to be played on any PC platform with a standard web browser, such as Mozilla, Internet Explorer 5 or later, or Netscape version 6 or later.
LadyStar(tm) incorporates an exciting and bold array of unconventional development and marketing ideas. Consisting of a planned 52 episodes organized into five volumes, LadyStar(tm) is being gradually released as shareware over the course of the next year, with the first volume of 10 episodes available free, and the remaining four volumes included with registration. Two episodes, "The New Girl" and "Little Pictures Everywhere" are already available for download at www.ladystar.net
The game is expected to primarily appeal to adventure game and anime fans, girls and casual game players. LadyStar(tm) is also the first game to be developed with Heavy Cat Multimedia's new Game Markup Language, a framework which greatly increases the speed and quality of game development, and which is designed to eventually make iStory(tm) games available on multiple platforms, including Personal Data Assistants, Electronic Books, game consoles and other devices equipped with standard browser technology.
Following the release of the "Electronic" or downloadable version of the game, LadyStar(tm) will be made available in a complete "Special Edition" CD-ROM next summer. Heavy Cat Multimedia is also pursuing exciting licensing opportunities for the LadyStar(tm) characters in a number of additional markets. Game-related merchandise is being made available through the company web site, located at www.heavycat.com, including their unique line of "Special Edition Glossies" featuring the LadyStar(tm) characters.
Founded in 1996, Heavy Cat Multimedia Ltd. is an independent developer and distributor of quality shareware products for the PC, including the popular HyperPage and UltraPage(tm) web development applications, and the iStory(tm) line of adventure games.
Regarding a U.S. release of the AIBO anime, no official details have yet to be revealed, however, with the recent move by Sony to sponsor AIBO with the upcoming Big Apple Anime Fest in NYC later this month and plans to debut "LATTE'' and "MACARON'' in North America at the upcoming Metreon event it's quite possible an U.S. release or brodcast of this series is to be forthcoming.
C.B. Cebulski is teaming with artist Jeff Matsuda on X-Men: Equinox, one of the books in Marvel's Mangaverse event in January. Ben Dunn of Antarctic Press is writing the 38-page bookends to the six one-shots, which will also include Punisher by Peter David and Lea Hernandez, Fantastic Four by Adam Warren and Keron Grant, Avengers Assemble by Udon Studios, Spider-Man by Kaare Andrews and Journey into Mystery by Chuck Austen.
Cebulski has long been involved in manga, with Central Park Media and now with his Fanboy Entertainment. "I went up to Marvel one day a while back to meet with a few editors about some of the Japanese artists I am friends with possibly working on some of their comics," he said. "I think it was at about this time that the Mangaverse project was just getting rolling. The subject came up over lunch and quickly became the main topic of conversation. After hearing what Marvel had in mind, I expressed a few opinions and concerns I had in regards to doing a project of this nature." Cebulski said Marvel had the same concerns he had.
"So many people have tried to do manga or anime 'style' books in the past that it has become almost trendy and cliche," Cebulski said. "However, most artists and companies that have tried it have simply swiped and ripped off the ideas, characters and themes from popular titles like Ghost In the Shell, Akira, Battle Angel Alita or Lodoss War. They also focused solely on the visual aspect, making the artwork seemingly look like what they thought manga and anime were supposed to be. Maybe the played with the coloring to make it look different and deemed it 'anime coloring.' Anime and manga fans were onto this from day one though and blasted it. "Marvel was well aware of this and wanted to avoid the pitfalls so many others who have tried it before had fallen into. I was so happy to hear they were so on the ball."
When the Mangaverse was given the green light, Cebulski heard from editor Brian Smith. "He wanted to know if I would mind offering my opinion from time to time and helping him out on the project. I told him I'd be more than happy to," Cebulski said. "Smitty had a list of creators he wanted to see involved in the Mangaverse. It consisted of not only artists who were known to draw in a more 'manga' style, but creators who had a known love for and understanding of manga and anime on different levels.
"After all, manga is so much more than just an art style. I added a few names to the list I thought could contribute as well. And as Smitty has mentioned already, Japanese creators were indeed approached to be a part of this, but most expressed an interest in working on the actual Marvel characters. This is something we are continuing to pursue. "After Smitty had contacted a number of creators and told them about the project, he came up with a kind of final list. Needless to say, I was pretty surprised when I learned my name was on that list! Smitty had seen the Star Wars story I wrote that Kia Asamiya illustrated, knew I was looking for more writing work and knew I understood what Marvel was going for with the Mangaverse. He asked me to pitch him an idea. "That's about how it happened."
X-Men: Equinox will feature Wolverine, Cyclops, Moonstar, Jean Grey, Rogue and Storm. "I chose the X-Men and told Smitty what I had in mind a few days later. He liked it," Cebulski said. "He and Ralph had a few comments and asked me to flesh it out. We went back and forth few times and finally had our story, X-Men: Equinox." Matsuda had done some covers for Cebulski when he was at CPM.
"Jeff has been hard at work on Jackie Chan Adventures these past few years but has been itching to get back into comics," Cebulski said. "He and I have long wanted to work together on something. We even had a Japanese Witchblade project set up at Top Cow years ago but things never really got off the ground as everyone involved was so busy and it just fell to the wayside. "But Jeff was also one of the artists Smitty had in mind for one of the books, so I called him up to see if he'd be interested in X-Men. Needless to say, he was and has been cranking out some simply awesome stuff with unbridled energy and enthusiasm."

4Kids Entertainment's ``Yu-Gi-Oh!'' Scores in Its First Duel on Saturday, Sept. 29 Eagerly Awaited KIDS' WB! Premiere of Hit Japanese Anime Series Ranks No. 1 Among Broadcast Competition in its Time Period Among Key Demos NEW YORK--Oct. 8, 2001-- In its eagerly awaited KIDS' WB! debut, the hot new Japanese anime series represented worldwide (outside of Asia) by New York-based 4Kids Entertainment (NYSE:KDE - news), ``Yu-Gi-Oh!'' debuted with a strong finish, ranking No. 1 among the broadcast competition in its time period in Kids 2-11 (2.5/11), Kids 6-11 (2.7/13), Boys 2-11 (3.8/16) and Boys 6-11 (3.6/18).
Produced by NAS (Nihon Ad Systems Inc.), ``Yu-Gi-Oh!''(TM) is the story of Yugi and his friends who are caught up in the game craze that is sweeping the nation: Duel Monsters -- a game that pits different mystical creatures against one another in wild, magical duels. Yugi, a high school kid, possesses the millennium puzzle that gives him special powers and makes him the best at the game. When Yugi gets into tough situations, his alter ego takes over and Yugi is able to defeat the virtual reality monster rivals.
The launch success of ``Yu-Gi-Oh!'' follows on the heels of 4Kids Entertainment's mega-franchise ``Pokemon''(TM), which, for its fourth year, also commanded winning ratings in both its 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. KIDS' WB! time periods. At the same time, 4Kids' original animated property ``Cubix''(TM), which debuted in August, continues to lead all broadcast competition in its 8:30 a.m. berth on KIDS' WB! -- giving 4Kids Entertainment four top-rated shows on the No. 1 broadcast network for kids.
Said Al Kahn, 4Kids Entertainment chief executive officer: ``We are delighted with the debut numbers for `Yu-Gi-Oh!,' our newest entry in kids television. Already a tremendous success in Japan, `Yu-Gi-Oh!' is a significant property for our company as we continue to expand our activities within kids entertainment.''
:The goal of the Yu-Gi-Oh! petition is to hopefully persuade 4Kids Entertainment, Inc. into releasing an uncut, subtitled version of the anime series, Yu-Gi-Oh! on VHS and DVD. The english edited version that has premiered on TV is rather sub-par, and hopefully fans can see the true original version of this wonderful anime series. The address to the petition is below:

Never kiss a sleeping girl in the forest. That was Yuusuke's mistake. Ever since then, Yuusuke's been plagued by the girl. She follows him everywhere and insists that he's her husband. And now she's moved her family of witches, vampires and demons into his house!
Sweet and innocent. Strange and silly. Noelle has decided that Yuusuke is her husband. But Yuusuke already has a crush on Natsumi. He tells Natsumi that she is an angel. Noelle overhears this and decides she will also become an angel. But what exactly does it mean to be an angel? And why does Noelle have a halo on her head?
Step 1: Kisses Mean I Like You, I Think Ever since Yuusuke accidentally kissed Noelle, she has been following him everywhere. Noelle is a girl who came from the Monster World. Calling Yuusuke "Omuko-san/My husband," she follows him around everywhere. But Yuusuke already has a crush, the star of the diving team, Natsumi Suzuhara. However, because of his friends, he's wrongfully accused of taking pictures with a hidden camera...
Step 2: Patched Up Love is Okay With Me! Between being chased by Noelle and dealing with her crazy family, Yuusuke is worn out. To make matters worse, Natsumi slaps Yuusuke because she thinks he was peeping into the girl's locker room. To straighten out the misunderstanding, Yuusuke tries writing a letter, but it gets torn up and thrown in front of his face. Yuusuke retreats into his room from shock, and finally he ends up yelling at Noelle who tries to help him feel better. Then, if things weren't already bad enough, Noelle is kidnapped by a...professional wrestler?
Step 3: Hold Me, Squeeze Me Noelle asks everyone to help her become an angel. Granny, who dislikes Yuusuke, takes advantage of the situation by telling Noelle that angels must not give into temptation. That means no touching, even though Noelle loves to hug Yuusuke! Enter catgirl Miruru, an old neighbor from the Monster World, with something up her sleeve...
Step 4 - "Precious Things, Precious...”
"What does it mean to think of something as precious? Are precious and love different? Is love precious?" In order to become Yuusuke's angel, Noelle tries to figure out about various things about love. On the way home from school, Noelle runs into Miruru. She wants to treat Noelle to a meal that will bring her happiness but…
Step 5 - "It Can't Be Seen, But It's There" Papa invites Yuusuke to go to the beach with the rest of the family. But Noelle's invisible older sister, Sara, is nowhere to be seen. Sara was happy when she was first able to turn invisible, but now she's sadder, especially since she met Yuusuke... She gathers enough courage to try and show herself to Yuusuke. And of course, Miruru is hard at work at the seaside to add to the chaos.

BANDAI ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES THE RELEASE OF SCI-FI ACTION FILM “G-SAVIOUR” EXCLUSIVELY ON DVD JAN. 22, 2002.

Universal Century 223 – Humanity struggles to survive as wide spread famine spreads throughout the Earth and it’s orbiting space settlements known as Sides. However, Congressional forces on Earth seek to suppress this discovery in order to maintain its control over the populace. Thrust into inevitable conflict, Curran must rely on the help of researcher, Cynthia Graves (Enuka Okuma), a secret organization known as the Illuminati, and an advance mobile suit called the G-Saviour in order to protect the energy source at all cost.

We received our review copy of today, and while giving it a checkout while checking email, there's some oddities about this release. The first is that the dub was done by Mix Magic Studios, Inc in Hollywood CA, so this is a new studio doing it. Curiously, the section listing this on the video is listed as "Voiseover". Also worth noting is that Bandai Entertainment did not produce this show, but just the DVD side of it with what they were given. Bandai Visual of Japan is handling this show apparently. So what's that mean? Looks like dubtitles folks. Word for word throughout most of the first episode that I saw.

PLAY (‘pLA), noun - (1) To occupy oneself in amusement, sport or other recreation; (2) to act in jest; (3) to behave with careless abandon
-The American Heritage Dictionary Bottom of Form 0
Los Angeles, CA (October 5, 2001) - PLAY: it’s perhaps the only word in the English language that can allude to joy, passion, excitement, competition, and carefree fun - all in the space of a single syllable. Inspired by all of the emotions and wonderful activities associated with this most versatile of words, Fusion Entertainment Publishing is proud to introduce PLAY, a monthly magazine dedicated to the exciting worlds of gaming and entertainment - launching mid-November 2001! PLAY will seamlessly blend VIDEO GAMES, MOVIES, TV, DVD, ANIME, SCI-FI, TOYS, and MUSIC, as well as popular FASHION TRENDS and GADGETS into a “lifestyle” magazine specifically targeting the 15 to 25-year-old male reader. Unlike other magazines which attempt to target this key demographic, PLAY does not narrowly focus on any single area of games or entertainment. While other periodicals seem to take pride in occupying a “niche” space in the market, PLAY’s aim is to attract all types of readers - with varying interests - all of whom occupy the highly desirable “15-25” demographic segment. “Apparel, personal electronics, extreme sports, action figures, cool gear and much, much more,” proclaims Dave Halverson, Editor-in-Chief of PLAY. “Fans of video games, movies and the exploding Japanese anime market are not single-minded consumers. They enjoy many other forms of entertainment, so that is what we intend to provide - thorough coverage of not only video games, movies and anime, but everything else in-between.” The introduction of PLAY to the publishing world is groundbreaking in many ways. Not only does the magazine tap an idea left unconquered by competition - the convergence of interactive media, entertainment and anime with other mainstream entertainment pallets - it does so utilizing a stylish, full-color design. “Unlike other publications in the same realm, we are sparing no expense to print each page in full-color on high-grade, glossy paper,” asserts Jon M. Gibson, Executive Editor of PLAY. “Our graphic designers have crafted a polished, easily read and enjoyed scheme that is both unique and artistic. Since art is a very distinct aspect of all entertainment sectors - being a vibrant, visual medium - we wanted to compliment that on the printed page.” Launching in time for the holiday shopping season, the premiere issue of PLAY will include extensive seasonal coverage. Readers will be treated to insightful, objective editorial on all things entertainment - from the latest and greatest video games to the most potent and innovative electronic gadgets. The approach of the winter holidays signals an explosive period of spending; and PLAY intends to embrace the giving season, whether it is as a stocking stuffer, a gift subscription, or even as a valuable tool in finding the perfect gift. Beginning in November 2001, PLAY will launch with a circulation of 60,000 issues. By the second quarter of 2002, circulation is estimated to rocket past 100,000 units. PLAY will be available at many top retailer stores including: Barnes and Nobles, Borders Books & Music, Babbage’s, Bookstar, B. Dalton Books, Electronics Boutique, Media Play, Sam Goody, Software Etc., Virgin Megastore, Tower, Walden Bookstore, and Suncoast Motion Picture Company.

As the Editor-in-Chief of GameFan Magazine he honed his editorial and management skills, quickly developing a reputation among video-game journalists for his ability to work closely with industry leaders while always maintaining the loyalty and respect of his readers. In addition to his extensive gaming journalism background, Halverson was one of the very few American journalists to foresee the explosion of Japanese animation (anime) in the United States. Because of this, GameFan was the first gaming magazine to also feature impressive monthly coverage of the anime market. In 1997, Halverson transitioned from GameFan to a new video-game publication, Gamers’ Republic. During the next four years, he built Gamers’ Republic into the world’s foremost grass roots video-game magazine. Successfully blending video games with anime - as well as movies, music, action figures, and technology - Halverson laid the groundwork for his most exciting endeavor yet. Now, as the creative mind behind PLAY, he intends to recast the world of entertainment and gaming magazines with a new kind of brand.
