Pulled from several sources, but I got the full numbers breakdown first from http://www.the-numbers.com/.
Spirited Away did $449,839 gross reciepts this weekend at only 26 theaters
across the nation, making an average take per theater $17,302. According
to the chart at Yahoo
(
http://movies.yahoo.com/hv/boxoffice/latest/rank.html ) that makes it
number 18 at the box office. A little math shows that it did better per
screen than any other movie out there this weekend - by comparison number 1
was Barbershop which did $12,817,223 on 1894 screens or $6767 per screen.
Finally, Nausicaa.net is listing another 28 theaters which will start showing the film this Friday. Loads of LA and NY/NJ theaters and one in Maryland. It looks like every week they are adding more theaters in the US and Canada to the list so check to see if your area has been reported yet. My friend in Salt Lake City is chomping at the bit to see it there, but so far he's out of luck. If the numbers sustain themselves, though, I would predict a wide release before Halloween. http://www.nausicaa.net/miyazaki/sen/theaters.php

Gamespot states a new Transformers game is in the works from Takara, and some of the developers behind one of the ZOE and Super Robot Wars games.

Finally according to www.dragonballz.com, Jackie Chan has got the most votes to play Vegeta in the live-action DBZ film. Now the site is asking you to input your choices for director.

The September 20 issue of Entertainment Weekly also has an on-set report of Kill Bill, with photos-including one with Chiaki Kuriyama(Chigusa) from Battle Royale

This is a nice place, a tad better than where Princess Mononoke opened. Hopefully other places will get it later, I know the AMC 24 at Town Center was playing PM during Christmas.
I work for a newspaper here in the San Francisco Bay Area. Specifically, the Contra Costa Times. The CCT is owned by the same company who owns the LA Times, the New York Times, Miami Herald and other big newspaper in the country. I worked at the Creative Dept. who does all the ads for the paper. I just want to let you know that the Friday Entertainment Section of the newspaper called "Time Out" features Hayao Miyazaki's
"Spirited Away". The link is here: http://www.bayarea.com/mld/bayarea/entertainment/
They also have a couple of articles about it inside the Time Out. The first feature article was about Miyazaki himself. And the other was a review of the actual movie. The reviewer gave it an astounding "A". Which is the highest.

Blackbelt TV has entered into exclusive licenses within the martial arts genre with two of the top providers of martial arts entertainment in the U.S., Warner Bros. Domestic Cable Distribution and Sony Pictures Entertainment. Blackbelt TV will also import films and television programming from all over the globe including some of the largest Asian film libraries in the world. Despite being considered cult classics, many of these martial arts films have never before appeared on domestic television. Blackbelt TV's programming unites the biggest celebrities in martial arts entertainment including Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Chuck Norris, Chow Yun Fat, Steven Seagal, Sammo Hung, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Yuen Woo Ping of Matrix fame.
In addition to the greatest martial arts films and TV shows of all time, Blackbelt TV has entered into exclusive relationships with leading promoters of championship fights and martial arts competitions from around the globe. The feature film quality bumpers, interstitials and Network IDs will be created by the same digital wizards that produce special effects, theme-park attractions, and animation for MGM, Miramax, Paramount and others. Blackbelt TV will be hosted by gorgeous female "Fight Jocks" who will provide humorous, sexy and no holds barred interstitial commentary.
Blackbelt TV chairman, Larry Kasanoff, announced the network adding, "Martial arts has permeated our pop-culture today. You can see outstanding martial arts sequences in virtually every blockbuster film and hit TV show today from "Charlie's Angels" to "Star Wars." Despite the millions of practicing martial artists, the tens of millions of fight fans and the hundreds of millions of action enthusiasts around the world, there is no one entity dedicated to these fans. Blackbelt TV is a lifestyle brand for the 18-34 old male that will become the one authority for all martial arts entertainment just as MTV has for music and Discovery for learning."
"I'm very pleased that we will be providing programming for the launch of Blackbelt TV," said Eric Frankel, President, Warner Bros. Domestic Cable Distribution. "Our library contains some of the world's premiere martial arts series and features that are sure to be solid hits with Blackbelt's viewers."
The network will generate additional forms of revenue by tapping into the billion dollar martial arts ancillary markets through its Blackbelt TV Network Enterprises Division. The division is responsible for developing Blackbelt TV branded home video/DVD, music, video games, apparel, toys, interactive television, on-line and off-line gaming, martial arts instruction and a line of health, fitness and self-defense products.
Primary investors in Blackbelt TV include Threshold Entertainment, Fusient Media Ventures, and Sirius Investment Corp.

Last year's inaugural festival featured "Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust", "Metropolis" and "Jin-roh: the Wolf Brigade". This year, we've got an even more exciting lineup planned. We are pleased to announce the first two titles on our programme:
- "Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door" (2001): an action-packed
all-new story of the band of bounty-hunting misfits from the fan-favourite
anime TV series, "Cowboy Bebop". Action, with style.
- "A Tree of Palme" (2002): a fantasy-adventure written and directed
by Takashi Nakamura, whose earlier credits include the wonderfully
imaginative "Catnapped!", as well as the anime TV series "Peter Pan" and the
"Nightmare" segment of "Robot Carnival." Mr. Nakamura was also the chief
animator for the classic anime film "Akira."
Additional titles will be announced shortly.

The pop singer of R&B and MISIA (24) will sing the theme music of TV game for the first time. "the small bird which has forgotten how to fly" recorded on the album "KISS IN THE SKY" with which the extravagant game using the voice of the singer representing Japan is the software for PlayStation 2 "the star ocean 3" (ENIX. November 28 sale), and a musical piece will be put on the market on September 26 It is what was realized since MISIA was greatly pleased in this game, and this music is newly recorded as a "KISS IN THE SKY - star ocean version" in full orchestra for a game. Powerful vocal of MISIA is made still grander by orchestra performance. Since there is no schedule by which the single cut of this version is carried out, it can be asked to this version only in this game. MISIA is saying, "I think that the talk unfolded in the large universe on the themes of new departure and new love, and courage is perfect for this music."

I was looking at the video in the yesterday. The work which I was looking at is "Blackjack" of the Osamu Tezuka. The actor who "blackjack" has the animation version and the dramatic film version, and is performing the blackjack of the dramatic film version is Daisuke Ryuu, and is a famous stage actor. He is also the person who voiced the hero of U.S. TV drama "the Miami Vice", and Don Johnson's voice again. Therefore, even if we familiar to the stand-in of animation see, the blackjack which Daisuke Ryuu performs does not have sense of incongruity, and is wonderful.
I'm not sure if they're even considering a longer version of Blood as the original movie was more or less, for a lack of a better word, an experiment. Sort of like testing their own guns. Also, the director of Blood isn't working at I.G anymore.

Yo:
Never wrote before, but I was so impressed with the trailer I just saw
thought I should share it with you all. It seems there a French animated
movie in progress that's strongly influence by the visual/pacing/dramatic
style of anime (whatever that means)... but that's the extent of it. The
trailer looks so awesome my skin crawled. The story takes place circa 1908
between Siberia and Shanghai, a blend of historical fiction, adventure,
mystery, with a touch of Oriental arcane. I think it may be based on a
French comic.
