Ah, good old' Street Fighter. How could you ever forget it? In my opinion, the video games kind of sucked up until Street Fighter Alpha for the PlayStation gaming console, but that's just me. Anyway, read on and find out about this great animation which brings the Street Fighter series into a whole different light! The Basic Information to the Movie:
This movie was licensed under Capcom and directed by Gisaburo Sugii. In 1995, both U.S. and Japanese versions of the movies were released but with some different scene takes. In the American version, the scene right before Vega and her get in a brawl, Chun Li is in the shower and this version shows more "footage" but has the nipples covered up with small black boxes. (This has been stated but I do not re-call seeing that at all. Hmm, I think I will double check this.) In the same year, an American TV series aired entitled "Street Fighter," surprise? This only aired for about 2 years. In any respect, let's move on.
The Story
The story begins with a pretty good sense of battle for viewers. (Spoilers Contained - Please be aware.) As Ryu and a Muay Thai champion from Thailand known as Sagat, are battling on an open road. Pretty good music is heard in the background (music will be explained in a little bit.) Unknown to both fighters, their battle is currently being monitored and recorded by a cyborg that was developed for an organized crime organization known as Shadowlaw. Once Ryu builds up his chi energy and fires a Shouryuken, Sagat is badly injured but still is determined to damage Ryu in anyway he can. He charges after him but once Ryu blasts a good Hadouken, the scene turns to the image you can see on the top left. He was thought to be in Asia after this fight, but I cannot really remember. I think it is correct.
The whole story in a nutshell is that, Ryu, and an American martial artist, are seeking each other, Ken Masters shows this more than Ryu. Interpol, whom is a international crime fighting organization, hears word of Shadowlaw's plot to use these "monitor cyborgs" in gathering information on top street fighters in the world and recruiting them for their cause. Now, Colnel William Guile is requested by another agent, Chun Li, to help him take down Shadowlaw. (They both have their own personal reasons for taking down Shadowlaw's leader, General M. Bison. This story is all about the attempts, and success, of street fighters working together to take down this ring of crime. I do recommend this to fans of good fighting anime!
My Personal Review of SF II
Overall, this movie was not bad, not bad indeed. With every movie I watch, the music which is playing during the fights catch my interest. There is a good selection of metal music in this movie which is played by Korn, KMFDM, and Alice in Chains. If you have not already seen this, though that may sound foolish to ask but it is true for some people, I suggest you buy it somewhere. There are still copies of the Street Fighter II animes around. If you cannot find them in stores, look on Ebay, or Amazon, or anyother merchandise selling store. Best Buy would be good! - Well, that's all for now.
